Merle could sing about things with authority that few people could. That was his songwriting and performing genius. Rest in peace, Merle. You brought great beauty to the world in the face of such difficulty and pain. ❤

I have listened to this song for years from the Rainbow Stew Live album. Never did I realize he was referring to Willie Nelson when he says "C'mon Will". I never get tired of this song.

Agreed. We used to rewind the cassette (lol) over and over to the “c’mon Will!” Never knew until these videos surfaced who Will was. It was also awesome to see the video of the stands rocking up and down when the voice comes over the speaker and says “Attention! For your own safety, please do not dance on the upper level!” We used to talk about what an awesome concert that would have been to be at.

The warden led a prisoner down the hallway to his doom I stood up to say good-bye like all the rest And I heard him tell the warden just before he reached my cell 'Let my guitar playing friend do my request.' (Let him...) Sing me back home with a song I used to hear Make my old memories come alive Take me away and turn back the years Sing Me Back Home before I die I recall last Sunday morning a choir from 'cross the street Came to sing a few old gospel songs And I heard him tell the singers 'There's a song my mama sang. Can I hear once before we move along?' Sing me back home, the song my mama sang Make my old memories come alive Take me away and turn back the years Sing Me Back Home before I die Sing Me Back Home before I die
