Wholly agree with that reaction to The Whip. That shit fucking slaps. Gave me some real old school metalcore breakdown vibes the first time I heard it. Same with Distress Rehearsal. The album fades a little bit toward the end for me(still love it), but god damn the first like 11 or 12 songs are some of the best stuff they've ever written. The final track is one of the best closings to an album from them too. What a way to end their career, even though I'm still praying for a reunion

It was without a doubt their best album they ever made. No skips the entire album. A perfect mix of their hardcore and their ability to make catchy and groovy parts that most in their genre cannot do. They evolved musically, vocally & are tighter than ever. Breaking the chains of what many try to limit hardcore/punk music to. Keith really shines more than ever, his voice sounding ten times better than i have ever heard it, as always the lyrics are well thought out, poetic and art in their own right. Sober looks and sounds great on Keith. How many bands release (and peak) their best album then break up??? These guys do, which kills me because I am left wanting more by ETID as a complete band as they are here.

it's awesome to see someone enjoying ETID as much as I do. I gotta say though, this is exactly why most albums are 10-12 tracks. Going over that is super risky. A lot of the songs at the end are just as good as the tracks at the beginning, but you can see his excitement just trailing off. It's almost just exposure therapy.

I mean, I agree with most of your ratings, The Whip has a riff that you can't not bang your head to. But your ratings reveal a bias in that you only seem to really like a song if it's smacking you on the balls with a wooden paddle. We Go Together is great as an album closer and other less heavy songs add a change in pace and show how ETID are just as talented when they change it up, rather than being pummeled for 16 songs straight!

This band has never put out a bad album. This is a 16 track album with 15 bangers, I don't love post boredom, but it doesn't mean it's a bad song, it's just the weakest of this group of songs. The only other band I can think of that has never put out a weak album is meshuggah, they've been consistent since chaosphere in 1997.

@Matt M Man it's so hard to choose between Ex-Lives, TBD, Radical, FPU, and NJA for me. I think they're all the best album, it just depends on my mood. ETID's breakup left a hole in this scene that can't be filled for me. I used to make fun of old people for never listening to new music and just listening to the same albums they did as kids/young adults, but I feel like I'm on the same path where the only thing I'll be listening to in my 40s is more ETID lol.

Everyone has their opinion, imo they don't have a "best album". All their albums are slightly different and have their strengths. I used to like NJA most, then the big dirty became my choice. Gutter phenomenon gets all the love in the world from me as a guitarist, as for the album as a whole - not so much but that's comparing it to the other albums. It took me a few years to get into ex-lives, once i did i couldn't put it down. Kinda the same for FPU. HOWEVER - ETID stepped it up a notch (or two) with Low Teens. Heaviest album to date with arguably the best riffs. It's obviously a damn shame what happened with the band, because RADICAL fkn slaps like the hand of Dolemite. By far my favorite of their albums to jam on guitar front to back. Not saying it's their best album, but probably the strongest contender. Rip etid, but now we've got BETTER LOVERS thank the metal gods.
