Merry Lou Preston, age 86, peacefully passed away on June 8, 2024 in the privacy of her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James E. Preston, the past most illustrious Grand Master of the Grand Council Royal and Select Masons, her parents Don and Ruth Schwalm, her cherished daughter Sue Preston, her sister Donna Danielson, and her special cousin, Phyllis Blake.
Left to cherish her memory are her devoted children, Carol Preston, Sandy (Doug) Davis, and Jim Preston, along with her brother John (Pam) Schwalm, brother-in-law Jack Danielson, cousins Judy (Gene) Jankowski and Jim (Sharon) Hoebeck, and sister-in-law Linda (Ron) Edwards. Merry Lou was also adored by her four grandchildren, Thomas (Jordan) Preston, Bryce and Brooklyn Davis, and Angela Imamovic, as well as her four great-grandchildren.
Merry Lou's life radiated with love for her family, whom she held close to her heart. She found immense joy in their company, crafting precious memories that will be cherished for generations. An enthusiastic card player, she reveled in games like solitaire, euchre, and setback where laughter and warmth filled family gatherings. She also delighted in reuniting with her classmates from Diamond Elementary, savoring their monthly lunches and the chance to reminisce about cherished moments from their school days.
Her passion for classical music was palpable in the harmonies that filled her home, offering solace and inspiration throughout her life. Merry Lou's love for music extended to playing the piano and singing, talents that brought her immense joy and solace.
A graduate of Grand Rapids Central High School in 1954, Merry Lou embarked on a fulfilling career path, spending five years at Michigan Bell Telephone before dedicating thirty years to H & R Block as a tax preparer. Her dedication to her profession and her unwavering commitment to aiding others were emblematic of her compassionate nature.
Merry Lou Preston will be remembered with deep affection for her kindness, generosity, and boundless love for her family. Her legacy of love, laughter, and music will endure in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Funeral services will take place at Pederson's Funeral Home in Rockford on Monday, June 17, 2024. Visitation will take place from 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm and funeral will follow at 6:00 pm. Immediately following services, family and friends are invited to celebrate Merry Lou’s life at the Courtland Township on 14 Mile. A light meal will be served.
