That was one of the mosr beautiful BF109 that i have seen. I also have a large1/4 scale BF and of all large RC warbirds(15) its by far the most difficult to take off. The scale tails just are two small and if you get to slow no way will you overcome the torque

Oh man I am sorry to see this. It looked to be a beautiful 109 - really spot on. What happened? I hope you will save the parts and when the sadness wears off you can rebuild... people have rebuilt worse! It will be worth it :)

I don't fly RC planes but I am a pilot. One of my adages is to always use the entire runway, which in this case he obviously didn't. If you have a problem on takeoff you have a better chance of putting it back on the runway, and you have more time to fix the problem.

I am confused, if you use the entire runway to take off "you have a better chance of putting it back on the runway"?

@@johnnichol9412he means, runaway behind you is worthless. If you have all available, you have every inch in case there is an issue.

@@flyboywbl If you "use the entire runway" and then "have a problem on take off" doing a u-turn and "putting it back on the runway" doesn't seem much of an option to me.

@@johnnichol9412 using the entire runway means you taxi all the way to the beginning of the runway for your departure. The take off roll is the same but you will become airborne with more runway to spare in front of you if there is an issue. You can put it back down on the available runway that was not available in this case because the pilot elected not to use the full length of the runway.
@johnnichol9412

@@flyboywbl The length of the runway had nothing to do with this. Basically a stall because he didn't have flying speed when he yanked it up and if he did have another 200' the result would have been the same.

I think that the hard right aileron input caused the stall of left wing as down aileron increased angle of attack on that side with reduced power.

One of my first "learn to fly" lessons for beginners is always: "if the situation becomes wobbly after taking of, hold full power. Power and airspeed are your best friends". Throttling in such a situation is a typical "scared beginner" fault. An expensive fault.

Its amazing how many hrs u need with a WoT4 before getting into scale. U need to be completely at home with airlerons, CG etc. All that work.

More Speed at Take Off. Less pull in the height. And It is better to stand directly behind the plane at the Take Off to keep Control.

Deadly combination. Set up safe climb attitude but reduced power. Aircraft sinks and into early part of stall rolling left. Aileron correction right and full power now torque rolling a/c left, increasing right aileron just increases left side aileron drag and fully stalls the tip. It's happening very quickly. Desperately unlucky.
