There have been a lot of reports of noisy batteries for the Quest 3 from users of the BoboVR M3 Pro head strap and battery pack.
See more on my blog www.briandorey...
When the BoboVR battery is connected to a Meta Quest 3 which has a battery level over 70%, the battery emits a high pitch buzzing noise and crackling sound and this reduces when the Quest 3 battery is at lower charge levels under 50%.
The noise is caused by the DC to DC converter inside the battery and these often produce audible noise when not running at optimum levels such as when the VR headset is not drawing enough current or the current load changes quickly.
The sound is generated by the power inductors of DC-DC converters and the high frequency switching can cause them to vibrate which then generates sound.
In this video, I removed the cover from the BoboVR battery and applied a small amount of epoxy resin over the power inductor and onto the surrounding circuit board.
This dampens the vibration from the inductor and reduces the level of audible noise produced by the battery pack.
Take care when separating the two parts of the plastic case as it would be easy to puncture the battery inside resulting in fire or worse.
After the modification, the noise is still slightly audible but the higher pitch whine is much lower and less distracting when using the Meta Quest 3 headset.
