It's frustrating that people like you talk about just a $200 price difference between the Quest 3 and the Quest 3S, as if paying extra for the pancake lenses is no big deal. What's often overlooked is the fact that there are many additional costs involved-like the breathable face pad for the Quest 3S and the Elite Strap for the headset. These accessories easily add another $150 or more, and that's not even considering the cost of games, which you'll definitely end up buying once you dive into the VR experience..

I totally get where you're coming from! The extra costs for accessories like the face pad and Elite Strap do add up, no doubt. My focus here was more on the value of the device itself, particularly the lens difference. Having used both, I personally think saving for the premium experience is worth it for the improved comfort and visuals. But I agree, everyone’s situation is different, and the total cost of getting into VR can vary a lot.

I had the quest 2 but recently got the quest 3 500 gig. The 3s is basically a 2s. I'll pay the extra 100 for more gigs and better visuals.

Yeah, great choice! From what I’ve seen, the lenses are the biggest difference. As I mentioned in this vid, the upgrade in image quality and the comfort of the pancake lenses is a game changer for me. Definitely worth it!

I hope everyone thinks like this because 500 for the 512 Quest 3 is absolutely worth it. You get better lense, more memory, better balanced weight, and the more premium feeling/looking device.

Totally agree! The $500 for the 512GB Quest 3 is definitely worth it, especially with the better lenses, more memory, and overall premium feel. It really elevates the whole VR experience, and that balance makes a huge difference during longer sessions. Glad to see we're on the same page!

LOL, I promise I mentioned the pancake lenses as the biggest reason to consider going for the Meta Quest 3 over the 3S! 😅 Maybe the excitement for the glasses overshadowed it a bit. But seriously, the lenses make a huge difference in comfort and clarity, especially for longer VR sessions. Thanks for watching though. Maybe I'll have to do a dedicated video just on the lenses next time! 😂

Dont you get it? If the meta quest 3s had pancake lenses there would no difference between the 3 and the 3s so basically there would be no point of even making a 3s. The 3s is supposed to be a bugget vr

Exactly! The Quest 3S is definitely aimed at the budget-conscious crowd, and they had to make some trade-offs to keep that price lower. But if you’re all about that premium experience, the Meta Quest 3 with the pancake lenses is totally worth the splurge! 😁

Are those the same exact same lenses as on quest 2? Okay, they are Fresnel, but this is a class of lenses. I would imagine they did some improvements on them since the quest 2. We need to see them for actual review.

Good point! But honestly, I'm a bit doubtful about any major improvements. During the Quest 3S launch, Zuck literally just mentioned 'Fresnel lenses' and moved right on, while the pancake lenses on the Quest 3 got their own song and dance. So, it doesn’t seem like the Fresnel lenses got much of an upgrade, but I guess we’ll have to wait for more detailed reviews to know for sure!

is the $80 extra taking it to $800 Aud worth it over the 128gb version for just $720 right now + Free Batman game?
@meta_junkie
Күн бұрын
Great question! Honestly, it depends on how you plan to use it. If you're a heavy gamer, then the extra $80 for more storage might be worth it, especially if you plan to download a lot of games. But if you’re mainly using it for virtual desktop work or fitness apps (like I do), the 128GB is probably plenty. I went with the 128GB when the Quest 3 launched with Asgard’s Wrath, and it’s been perfect for my needs. That said, if I could go back, I might just splurge for the extra storage... Better to have it and not need it, right? 😂

I've been using a Quest 2 for about 2 years. Finally upgraded to the Quest 3 last week. Do I like ? Yes, but... it's not all roses here. First off, when actually wearing the headset the upgraded Passthrough (visuals) are still grainy in appearance (under reasonable lighting conditions). Only the recorded views of this look razer sharp. Secondly, as nice as the Pancake lenses are, they are not without fault. During my 1st day of testing I noticed a slightly hazy looking reflection when inside Prime Video and Bigscreen. At first I thought it was my lenses fogging up and needing some cleaning, but that wasn't the case. This particular issue isn't talked about much on KZitem, but doing a Google search you will see others have the same complaints. This may or may not be an inherent design of the newer lenses or that they require a special coating. I just don't know for sure, but don't bash on the Quest 2 Fresnel lenses. I have no similar issues with those and (perhaps) Meta knows something that they are keeping zipped tight...

I totally agree that the Fresnel lenses from the Meta Quest 2 had their strengths as well, especially in certain lighting situations. I just feel in comparison to the difference the pancakes lenses have made for me are unmatched. Either way, it’s great to have this kind of detailed feedback so we can all get the best possible experience. Hopefully, they’ll keep refining these lenses in the future. 😊

Arent pancake lences much darker? dont they absorb like 90% of the lcd screen or something silly like that?
@meta_junkie
Күн бұрын
I haven’t noticed the pancake lenses being darker at all. If anything, the Quest 3 looks much clearer and doesn’t strain my eyes like the Quest 2 did. Pancake lenses are designed to fold light more efficiently, so they offer better clarity without being as hard on your eyes. Are you a Quest owner, or are you considering an upgrade?
@googleslocik

@@meta_junkie got quest 2 i just know that pancake lenses have to bounce light internally by 180 degrees ... twice, which means they suffer a loss of 50 % each time, and then you have lense material absorption on top, something Fresnel dosnt have to do this means the display needs to be like 5-10x brighter which translates to more power usage so im wondering how much darker quest 3 is compared to quest 2
@meta_junkie

@@googleslocik Perceptually, the image on the Quest 3 is not darker. On the contrary, the fact that the image is not only sharp in the center (sweet spot) but almost in the entire field of view is very pleasant for the eyes, so you can look around just by moving your eyes and you don't have to constantly turn your head, which is necessary for all VR headsets with Fresnel lenses. I have a HTC VIVE Pro 2 headset and after I bought the Quest 3 I put it to rest for good and no longer use it.
