I would very much want to watch a heavy metal version of The Magic Flute. The Aria is DARK, man. It even has an extremely metal title that translates to Hell's Vengeance Boils in my Heart. In context, The Queen of the Night, in a vengeful rage puts a knife in her daughter (and main character along with another guy named Tamino) Pamina's hand and tells her to assassinate Sarastro, the queen's rival or else she will curse and disown her. It's a tense moment, is extremely metal and I'm SO effing happy you chose to use Diana Damrau's version, as it is by far my favorite. Opera was the heavy metal of its day. Epic and often dark and controversial. I've always thought Phantom of the Opera would make an amazing metal opera. Nightwish already did a rendition of the title song and it is bloody phenomenal.

Diana Damrau isn’t known for darker, serious roles like this. She mainly does fun, happy roles in comedy/romance operas that fit her coloratura voice. Lots of Rossini. But she just so happens to be the best in the world at this particular aria. She’s flown all over the world to perform this. My mom, a long time opera student, was shocked when I told her of this video. “Diana? Singing Mozart? No way”. But she watched it, and… yeah.

This is one reason I love Nightwish and guitarists like Yngwie. The "classical" sound and rock/metal feel just really goes well together for me. I can say the same with many power metal bands too, or are they symphonic metal? Neo classical? I'm not very familiar with the technicalities but I think you get my point. It's also why Afterlife is my favourite Avenged Sevenfold song, and why I love Galneryus' Angel of Salvation among many others. Music is all inter-related. Genre mashups can be done beautifully, and are always welcome in my book. And I honestly wouldn't have started listening to classical stuff had it not been for the metal music I listened to.

I personally make thrash with classical/orchestral elements, using the EHX mel9 as an organ/mellotron, and occasional scores using section instruments, like my voice for choirs and an Ebow or a Cello, for strings.
