GREAT TEST !!! That puts-to-bed my concerns about having a metal pole!! I KNOW NOW that there is no need to purchase a fiberglass pole!!!! That was of GREAT CONCERN FOR ME!! THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH FOR THIS TEST!!! 73's, and good DX'ing ahead for you!! Ron

Ohhh perfect presentation for this subject as I have 4' sections of military aluminum mast and am wondering the same thing with plans for the same type of antenna. Thank you for doing this clip. I bet there are many others wondering too. 2nd the idea that this was a great test.

Honestly, looking at the very end, the where you put the 49:1 up on the tower had the lowest SWRs on all the bands, especially on 12M.

Agreed, going from 3.7:1 on 12m down to 2.2:1 is quite an improvement.

Nice antenna work. Dont get rid of counter poise. If anything lengthen it about 12 inches it will help with 12meters and make it more radio friendly. 73 de AC8GF

I can definitely play with that. Currently camping but it is a county park. Playing radio but not activating 😩 I took the 7-foot counterpoise off and the TennTennas EFHW worked natively on 10-40 and - with a tuner - 17. I am using a 50 foot run of coax.

It does work with random Wires, too. I have used my mast as ground and connected a very thick groundwire at the end of the antenna as counterpoise. Using the Coax here always had some weird consequences vor me in different setups especially with more power.

Great vid thanks! Interesting pattern for 12 meters. would be interesting though to see this done using a standard aluminium flag pole that is closer to half wave resonances.

A metal mast at a resonance frequency would be interesting. I need to do some math on my tower height to see where it falls frequency wise. I didn't pay attention to the 12m value as the multi-SWR mode always uses 5 frequencies and the 12m value was left over from the defaults. It wouldn't be hard to see where this EFHW falls for the WARC bands. (Read that as, idea for another video!.) I do know I've had mixed results on 80m. Sometimes my 7300's tuner can match 80m into this antenna and other times not. I think it might be height of match box off the ground. Or length of coax which acts as a counterpoise. (Do I hear an idea for another video? 😀)

@@aa3konthego No ugly math needed. Just hook that beautiful Rigexpert up to your tower with a short lead and one of those cheap bnc bananna splitters. Going to try this this myself thanks to you as my pole is 3 feet shy from from my tuned wire length as it turns out. 73

@@jeff-73 math is never ugly. Perplexing sometimes but never ugly! My tower is grounded so results could well be skewed. IIRC I've seen diagrams of using a metal mast with a sloper to get directivety in the direction the sloper and mast line up. The mast acts like a reflector. I will need to dig this info up to see the details.

I am curious about the other parameters. I have seen on my similar setup and with my AA-55, that even with a low swr the R/X are all over the place on some bands. The 40m band (on mine) seems to be right around 50 ohms. Great videos!

I didn't capture the other parameters that the RigExpert can measure. There is a chance your torroid core is heating up and that will throw things off.

i would try to never put an insulator so close to a metal mast or pole, try to add some nylon spacing before the insulator. You might have to watch out for metallic poles starting to act like parasitic elements which could change the radiation pattern. Probably won't make much of a difference for a low end fed like this. the radiation pattern is probably all over the place anyway.

How about if mounted as an inverted L going up the metal mast and then off the tower to another pole?
@aa3konthego
Жыл бұрын
That is something I'll have to test. I'm pretty sure there will be interaction but the metal support could act as a reflector giving directionality. I may have to learn antenna modeling to get a "picture" of any directionality,

Hello, good antenna tests ... also like to do tests to my antennas You will try placing the matchbox between 2.5 and 3 meters high without counterpoise End fed between 6 to 7 meters high My end fed, 40-20-15-10 works great with this setup / 73 CR7BDO

Interesting test and results. I have 2 x 8m aluminium flagpoles I have not tried as masts, due to my worry about interaction. Now I am wondering if I could connect the feed to the bottom of one, add a wire at the top and turn the mast into the vertical section of an inverted L. It would allow me to get a longer antenna into the air, but I have no-one that can help me raise or lower it, so the test has not been done.....this clip makes me wonder if it would work. Now I have one less excuse to use.....dammit, it looks like I will be doing some wire work over the coming weeks.

Just make sure you have electrical continuity between the sections and isolate the mast from ground.
