Lee Aaron was very popular in Canada back in the 1980's as a Metal singer & by the 90's she became a 'blues rock' singer. These days she writes songs for others & owns a recording studio. She sings sometimes for fun at local clubs. She & her husband are big vinyl collectors. I've met them many times at local record fairs or stores.

@@RuthlessMetalYT Her sound hovered mostly on the Hard Rock/Heavy Metal border with a bit of '80s hair metal influence in there. Her best, heaviest albums are Metal Queen, Call of the Wild, and Bodyrock with good tracks scattered on the rest of the albums. Her '90s album "2Preciious" was really grunge influenced and then she went full-on jazzy blues after that point. I heard her latest album is more metal but haven't check it out yet. Great voice.

I would also add Lita Ford to the list. By the way I saw Doro twice in Canada and 3 times in Germany. Everywhere, every night, no matter how tired she might be, she stays for hours until every single fan gets an autograph or photo with her. Her incredible dedication to fans kind of reminded me of Dio. In Canada, she casually invited me to Germany to see her 25th anniversary concert back in 2008. I really went there to see her in Düsseldorf, she remembered me and invited me to their backstage party where I got to meet Scorpions and Axel Rudi Pell as well.

The metal queen lineup is woefully underutilized in metal. In opera, a trained female soprano can rip through any male vocalist. Metal can benefit from a lead who can belt out the high notes without even struggling. Plus, the sex appeal never hurts. One caveat: low raspy death metal vocals are not compatible with female vocal cords. Sounds like sht and ruins their larynxes. Not good for men either, but terrible for women.

Nice topic, so here are some random thoughts. That first Santa LP was an absolute killer, and in my opinion, the best on your list. The Kim Sixx 7" was also up there. Warlock were pretty good, but kind of started getting commercial after a few LPs. Blacklace were considered a joke here in NYC. Bitch had a good sound on their first 12" and LP, but the lyrics were just too silly, then they went steadily more commercial. The problem with a lot of the female fronted bands was using the woman for sex appeal, which may have gotten more attention, but would also make people take them less seriously. What I like about the original image for Santa was that the vocalist was sort of the opposite of sexy, but scary. She looked like she was going to rip your head off. Take it easy.

@@Bravilor People around here thought they sucked on stage, and they sounded pretty stupid during radio interviews. Musically, I personally thought they were OK on record, but live they were a "fail." She had a good, strong voice, though.

Nice coverage of these ladies from the eighties, first time I've heard of some of them, and it's always good to find new music. . I'm surprised nobody has mentioned them in the comments already, but if you haven't heard of them, you should check out Band Maid they're incredibly talented. I'd recommend "FREEZER, Shake That" "Turn Me On" and "Don't you tell me' to start. Lots of folks like DICE and "Secret my Lips" as well. There's a lot more that I didn't list, but by then you'll have an idea of what they're capable of and whether you dig them or not. (^^)v

For me, Leather Leone is still the Queen of Metal. Best female metal voice. She is still active under the Name of Leather. Still a fantastic voice. I also love Jutta Weinhold...her Zed Yago Albums are so underrated; with her theatrical voice so fitting for the type of music and lyrics. For me, she's the german metal queen!

Great video; thanks for reminding me of some great bands. I'd heard of most of these with Warlock and Chastain being my favorites. Heard of Zed Yago, but never heard their music until today. Never cared for Bitch. For years I didn't believe Santa, Metal Lady, or Heather Leather were real bands. Their names were too cliche, or just unbelievable for metal bands.
