Roky Ericsson was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia and felt very lonely. He had no friends in real life just the ghosts in his head. But for him they we're real and that's what this song is about. As long as he had his imagery friends he was happy. Still a very beautiful song thou. This album is recorded in Foo Fighters old studio and Dave Grohl has produced. He even plays on some songs. The rumour is that he also has played drums live as a nameless ghoul but no one is really sure.

Just listening to the cover of “I’m A Marionette” (studio version) is proof enough for me that Grohl played on that track, which spawned the rumors that Grohl played shows with them since he produced that EP.

@@virgil5650 I don’t believe that’s true. Grohl produced the IYHG EP, and the drumming style on Marionette sounds, to my ears, 100% Dave. Pretty sure Tobias’ “regular” studio drummer, Ludvig Kennberg, has done all but the most recent stuff.

Dude I wish you would have seen them live earlier, when they played this live, papa would slow it down during the bridge and he would tell silly jokes about all the ghouls and introducing them all. Which is hilarious bc each one is just “GHOULLLLLLL”. And then when they go right back Into the song it’s so epic.

Swedish metal drummer/songwriter here! This song is my 2nd favorite of theirs after Ghuleh/Zombie Queen. It’s a bit of a crime they don’t play If You Have Ghosts live anymore. To me it was one of the biggest highlights of their concerts. I saw them in 2013 for the first time, on the Infesti tour (when this was their latest new released track), and it was one of the greatest shows of my life. And I’ve seen hundreds of bands since 1991 and onwards. Saw Ghost in 2013, 2014, three times in 2015, and again in May 2022. I think if you had seen Ghost last year when they opened the shows with Imperium/Kaisarion (+the that big firecracker) you might’ve had a different opinion on Kaisarion. It’s an amazing concert opener and I think it’s a sweet Rush-type song to open the latest album as well. I hope you get tickets for the show!

The “scooby-Doo surf rock” era of Ghost is my favorite. I got lucky and heard about them early. Got to see them on their first first US tour. After their first album (still my favorite) Though i agree, second album is the most Ghost album. But they killed it, as good a show in a small venue as I’ve ever seen in any size venue. Amazing show in Asheville NC.

Thanks for doing this track! Think it’s Top 5 track for me. Introduced me to Roky Erickson too, so it’s special because Roky ended up becoming one of my favourite artists. His album The Evil One is basically all spooky themed horror focussed songs, which he fixated on after becoming schitzophrenic because he was subjected to electroshock in a mental hospital. Even if you didn’t like his version of this track (I agree that Ghosts’s is far better) you gotta check out some of his other stuff. ‘Night of the Vampire’ is such an epic fucking song. Stand for the Fire Demon… It’s A Cold Night For Alligators… one of the best albums cover to cover ever, especially if you like some spooky stuff. And the guitar is insane on that album. You might know Roky already as the singer from 13th Floor Elevators, the 60s psychedelic legends. ‘You’re Gonna Miss Me’ is their best known song, you’ve likely heard it. His vocals were mind blowing on that track. Check out his story, it’s very interesting and tragic. Went from 60s psych hero to a horror rock icon by way of schizophrenia. Sorry I rant about Roky. He’s just so cool.

This cover of If You Have Ghosts (with a 's') is one of five tracks on the album titled If You Have Ghost (no 's'). Secular Haze is the only song on that album that isn't a cover. The album came out late 2013, with Infestissumam releasing earlier the same year, so you are definitely right about it having a similar sound. I saw them play this song live on the 2018 fall tour (called A Pale Tour Named Death) for the release of Prequelle.
