I am glad that you give this extremely exceptional Nordic group a chance. I tell you a little about its history. The group, which are two boys and one girl, have Norwegian, Danish and German nationality and uses instruments such as horns of different animals, drums, human bones, rattles with human ashes, bells, stones, all to go back to the first musical compositions that They were able to interpret 1,000 years ago, in the iron age in northern Europe. All the letters are taken from carved gadgets from the era of the Nordic iron, such as arrowheads, bows, swords, rune stones and recite poems and psalms of war, peace and protection. Whereupon and for this, heilung, which means healing in German, is in close collaboration with archaeologists specializing in the field. The languages used by heilung are several. Among them are Latin, Old Danish, German and English. They were so successful with their first album that they had to release a new live album, which includes 2 new songs. Also a video of that album live and this year they released their second work, futha, which is a much more feminine work. His first album, Ofnir, is much more aggressive and masculine. During the concerts some representations of how these ancient rituals of the iron age could be made. Also just finished the soundtrack of the video game Hellblade 2. Some curiosities. When they built the drums for the group, one of which is made from horse skin, a doctor drew blood from the three members of the group and painted the drums and some of their clothes with it. The male singer with the deep voice is a great tattoo artist and very professional. The bones the girl plays with are human bones and sometimes they have had problems in the countries of the tour to introduce them through the border from the country where the concert was held. 33

Thanks so much for all that information and taking the time to write all of that! I knew those were human bones, I was quite shocked to see them! This group is entirely fascinating and captivating. I periodically search the term "Heilung reaction" because I always enjoy people hearing the group for the first time and being in complete awe! I know every word of their songs 'In Maijan' and 'Hamrer Hippyer', two amazing songs! If you ever decide to do a reaction to 'Traust', be careful because a lot of the videos for that song has a topless woman and that could get the video flagged. Maria is in character here as (I think) some kind of prophetess so that explains the blank face. I think she's meant to be conveying a sense of otherworldliness. You may have by now seen her interview (in normal clothes!) with Elizabeth on 'The Charismatic Voice' channel on here - well worth a watch if not. She's very down to earth in that - very different to this stage image.

Time dilutes listening to this song. Its a shamanistic experience. It is based on a poëm found on the Eggja stone, one of the oldest runes found. I am far from fluent in protogermanic, but it is a bit like Dutch/German/English (languages that came from protogermanic), so I did my best to translate: Min warb naseu (we where near the waterline) Wilr made thaim (doing the laundry) I bormotha hauni (I was disturbed a howling) Hu war (hu war) (who was it) Hu war opkam har a hit lot (who was it that has come upon to our lands) Got nafiskr orf (got masks on) Auim suimade (making havoc) Foki afa galande (people all panic) What am I supposed to do If I want to talk about peace and understanding But you only understand the language of the sword What if I want to make you understand that the path you chose leads to downfall But you only understand the language of the sword What if I want to tell you to leave me and my beloved ones in peace But you only understand the language of the sword I let the blade do the talking So my tongue shall become iron And my words the mighty roar of war Revealing my divine anger's arrow shall strike All action for the good of all I see my reflection in your eyes But my new age has just begun The sword is soft In the fire of the furnace It hungers to be hit And wants to have a hundred sisters In the coldest state of their existence They may dance the maddest In the morass of the red rain Beloved brother enemy I sing my sword song for you The lullaby of obliteration So I can wake up with a smile And bliss in my heart And bliss in my heart And bliss in my heart Coexistence, Conflict, combat Devastation, regeneration, transformation That is the best I can do for you I see a grey gloom on the horizon That promises a powerful sun to rise To melt away all moons It will make the old fires of purification (of purification) Look like dying embers (x10) Min warb naseu (we where near the waterline) Wilr made thaim (doing the laundry) I bormotha hauni (I was disturbed by a howling) Hu war (hu war) (who was it) Hu war opkam har a hit lot (who was it that has come upon to our lands) Got nafiskr orf (got masks on) Auim suimade (making havoc) Foki afa galande (people all panic) (all who have ears! They don't class what they do as shows or concerts or gigs. They're rituals. Each one starts with someone coming out and sage-ing the gear, the stage and the audience. He sages everything again at the end of the ritual. I attended the ritual in London in November 2019 and it was transcendental and spiritual and joyous, all at the same time. When I emerged onto the chilly north London street, at the end of the night, my immediate thought was "oh. I'm back in the 21st Century". It was an amazing experience. The spoken word section in the middle was a conversation between the elder of a peaceful village and a raiding party. The elder, spoken by Kai (the Shaman), was telling the raiders that they wanted to be left alone but would defend their village to the death, if necessary.

You might have found out allready, but if not, here's a short background for the lyrics. It's taken from elements from the Eggja-runestone found in Norway, dating back to the 600's. Exactly what the meaning of the text on the stone is uncertain. Heilung seems to interpret it as a curse over someone who has raided them, summoning a oceanic beast that will kill the raiders (just watch their official video for that version). The interpretetion the the academic community seems to lean towards, is that it is more of a gravestone to someone lost at sea, who never returned to the village... Here's a link to the english wikipedia: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eggja_stone
