Legend has it that Cave and Harvey (who, at the time, was "simply" featuring in this song) fell in love while filming this video. Their romance was comparatively short, but it led both of them to create great music. The passion you sense in the video is authentic. And didn't they look simply perfect together?

The Bad Seeds are the band front manned by Nick Cave, the guy you see in the video. They made some really interesting music over the years, this song came out in 1996, but you should definitely check out Red Right Hand. Also, P.J Harvey, the girl in the video, was in an actual relationship with Nick Cave at the time; that makes the song all the more interesting for me, i hope you dig more into them because they are really great artists.

I think you missed the main part, she killed him with a pen knife and threw him in a well. Then she said that his girlfriend can wait forever for him because over time the flesh will fall from his bones. He is Nick Cave (and he played the part of Henry Lee). His band is the Bad Seeds. She is another Aussie musician called PJ Harvey. If you want a ripping good song/story from the Murder Ballads album then do O'Malley's Bar - that is one killer tale!

P J Harvey is from Dorset in England. She is an incredible artist and double Mercury Prize winner. Was in a soulmate level relationship with Nick Cave but he was unfaithful and she ended it with a phone call when she found out.

Thank you so much for this video! This is definitely one of my favorite songs! I love nick cave and his poetry. He and our Fabrizio de Andre have similar vibes with their ballads. This one in particular is about a man called Henry Lee, getting involved with a girl when he is away from home. This girl - you noticed the red flags right away- ends up killing him so she could have him all for herself and he couldn’t go back to his actual girlfriend. Pj Harvey is a musician on her own and she did this collab with him at the beginning of her career. Another similar song by Nick Cave in collaboration with Kylie minogue is Where the Wild Roses grow. Also about a killer, in this case male, who murders a beautiful woman with whom he had just started a relationship, simply because “all beauty must die”.

Cool reaction. You didn't ignore what was happening onscreen, the other reactors just reacted to the song, 'doesn't make sense. About that: they ARE the singers... but they didn't have to act THAT much, since they were falling in love with each other, while making this video. :D Thirty years later, Henry Lee remains one of my favorite MVs ever. One camera, one cheap set, a thousand fucking kilotons of charisma, chemistry, and sexual tension. I wish Cave and Harvet gave us an entire movie with these two characters, the same style and the same vibes. The 90's was the best decade.

She did want him to stay.He said “No!” She said “A kiss would’ve been enough!”’Then she stabbed Henry Lee to death with a pen knife and threw him in a well, and let his body rot, “And the girl that you love in that merry green land can wait forever for thee.” End of story. It’s from Nick Cave and the Bad Seed’s album ‘Murder Ballads’. PJ Harvey is a guest artist on this song. Most of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds music is kind of alternative and punkiah, PJ Harvey is a rocker, and was once described as kind of like Joni Mitchell, “but she plays guitar really loud”. This song is very different for both of them.

This is from " Murder Ballads ", Nick's best selling album, he adapted traditional songs about ill-fated love and composed a few of his own. The whole album is a masterpiece, but then EVERYTHING he puts out is ! The most well-known song on this album is "Where the Wild Roses Grow " with Kylie Minogue which had a heavy rotation on MTV at the time.

Hi Angelo, cool to see you react to Nick Cave. Master of dark poetry and sad songs. He goes on tour (sometimes) just with his piano and nothing more. Just his voice and a piano in a great hall. Very intense. This song is one of the infmaous "Murder ballads" album from the 90s. He did duets with women from all kind of music genres back than for that album. Most famous song from that ablum is "Where the wild roses grow" with Kylie Minogue. No one believed in a duet with Nick (being old Punk Goth Rock he was) and Pop singer Kylie. That song was her breakthrough as a more seroius to be taken singer. That song is a beautiful sad ballad of someone getting murderd as well :) Another famous song is "Red right hand" which was used as title track for the TV series "Peaky blinders" or "O Children". Hope you're doing well, cheers from Europe

True. She phoned him out of the blue to tell him it was over. In an interview he said: “I was so surprised I almost dropped my syringe,” Cave said, adding that “deep down” he thought drugs “might have been a problem between us, but there were other things too”.

How can you never have heard of Nick Cave (one of the most relevant singer-songwriters of the last 30 years)? Maybe you live in a cave (pun intended). And this is not a band it's a collaboration between Nick Cave and Polly Jean Harvey (aka PJ Harvey), who is probably the most incredible female musician of the last 3 decades. No excuse being a metalhead, I'm into all sorts of metal, death, thrash, black etc but I know genius when I see it in music. Broaden your horizons man.

There are such thing as a metalhead that won't worship Nick Cave? Probably the second most unanimous artist of all time, only surpassed by Pink Floyd. It's just too good, you can't miss the genius of Nick Cave.
