From what I know, they 100% planned on playing it, but some way somehow, in the midst of everything that was happening, they literally just straight up forgot all about it. I’ve had an experience like that. My first concert was in 1983 (I was 15), when Dave was still their lead down in the Metro. It was a really small crowd, and a lot of people just came to throw stuff at them because they weren’t popular at all yet. Fun fact: Exodus played at the same small pubs on the same nights that Metallica did when they still had Dave, and Kirk was in Exodus. There’s a photo of Kirk and Dave together backstage in a small pub. They weren’t interacting, though- they were just listening to the list of bands and what order they’d play in. At my second concert (Kirk was now their lead, it was his first show), I got a chance to talk with the band with a few other people. I still have my signed vinyl. Everyone in the band signed it, but Cliff wrote really big for some reason 😂😂

I was here at the show i won a ticket through a coke zero contest and honestly it wasn't cold. Sure you think Antartica, cold as shit right? The Dome was at the Argentine Base that's built on the Pennisula along Antartica. It was probably 30-40 degrees Fahrenheit throughout the show. And probably 50 degrees in the dome. It was weird. There were maybe a hundred scientists in the crowd who sorta knew some of the songs and would headbang off time and yell half lyrics and a bunch of other coke zero winners. Also, Metallica didn't even use amps. We listened to the show through these sucky ass headphones and sometimes you'd take them off and be able to hear songs better just from acoustic noise. One thing that is really hard to tell in this video though is how fucking bright it was there. The Dome definitely reduced the strength of the sun but when you'd go outside it would fucking blind you for a second.

Props guys. You played Blackened, which I'm guessing has your toughest riffs, and Creeping Death which is supposed to have the toughest solo while your hands had to have been freezing. Since its the southern Hemisphere, and the concert was in December, that's what passes for "summer" down there. Google gave me the location and date, so a second google gave the high and the low. Guessing the temp was around 32 degrees at showtime. Also props to the crowd. That was less than 500 people, maybe less than 300 but they made enough noise for 2000+

You guys bitching that they don't sound good here, try to warm up your hands and fingers on Antarctica and see how well you play. Not to mention the bubble they are playing in isn't exactly acoustically friendly. You also have to consider their equipment isn't designed to operate optimally in sub fking zero temperatures. They may use AxeFX units, but their power amps are Mesa tubes that can't possibly be getting very hot. Cheers.
@drenahmeti22
9 жыл бұрын
They didn't play through amps. "Metallica's upcoming concert in Antarctica won't just be their most remote gig of all time - it will be their quietest. The band have confirmed plans for a show on the planet's iciest continent, revealing that due to Antarctica's unique conditions, they will be performing without amplifiers. It's a "journey to the bottom of the Earth", Metallica wrote on their website. The US rockers are travelling to Argentina's Antarctic research base, Carlini, to perform "near the heliport" on Sunday 8 December. A group of contest winners will rendezvous with the band at Carlini as part of a 10-day Antarctic cruise. "We'll be playing inside a dome on the base," said the statement. "In another twist, the show will be transmitted to the audience via headphones with no amplification - a real first for us!" The gig will also be live-streamed to fans "[in] participating countries" via coca-cola.tv and coca-cola.fm. "At a later date", Metallica plan to "share" the footage in what will probably be the world's first Antarctic concert film. Metallica have yet to explain why their concert is being organised as a kind of silent disco, with fans wearing headphones. It's likely to be an issue of logistics: by performing amp-free, the band will require much less equipment to be brought over the Drake Passage. According to promoters Coca-Cola, the gig complies with Argentina's environmental management programme for Antarctica, and follows the guidelines of the international Antarctic-Environmental Protocol."

If Metallica aren't able to live long enough to perform at a concert in on the moon due to technology after playing all 7 continents of the world, they should play at the Super Bowl 50 halftime show in their hometown of San Francisco, Bay Area in 2016!

Give em' till next year. Maybe the NFL grow balls and stop giving pop divas the show and go back to the Rock theme half time shows.

I know they should there hasn't been a good halftime show in a while they've been sucking bad the nfl were gonna have van Halen if they got enough and enough people voted but VH Didn't get it! Maybe metallica will...

They've shown interest in it, but I just hope everyone knows that the majority, if not all, of the performance would be lip synced. They don't leave much to chance ever since Justin Timberlake pulled out Janet Jackson's tit on live TV. I wouldn't hold it against them for lip syncing that show, due to the circumstances.

Imagine one of the guys that are working there got killed in a blizzard storm in the latest years... Then that song won't be in place.
