Watching these, I'm awed by the simplicity of Metallica's writing and yet how massive their sound becomes
@JulienMENARD
Жыл бұрын
Absolutely true. In a similar way, Rammstein understand this so well. Metallica music is often not so complicated (on the paper) and i think it's really good with this kind of sound, the impact is way more better. It's smart... and they succeed pretty well i think ^-^

@@JulienMENARD frankly speaking it is looks a little bit simple but devil in the details - very accurate timing of both players and Kirks good feeling of the proper bends licks doing it very hard for novice to play it as original. So many details to mix in proper way. But it's Metallica after all. Of course they know how to catch us even with simple melody )

I have been trying to find the clean version of the melodic riff behind the chorus for at least 10 years. This is BY FAR the best version online. Thank you so much for the video. Words can't describe the beauty of what Metallica achieved in those parts. It always amazes me that how much diversity there is in the Metallica songs, they never fail to impress whether it's a heavy song or melodic.

*Most likely will be a long comment* I had a guitar for a very long time since I was literally in elementary school but I never actually learned it. I just was the “I have a cool guitar” and I was always strumming random strings in the background with Metallica pretending I’m performing (dumb kid stuff even tho I still do it now at 20 years old) This has always been one of my favorite songs of all time especially when they play it live ! I love Metallica’s guitars just as much as their music, so I decided after years and years to invest in a ESP KH2 (exact guitar you’re using) and play the songs I love from Metallica. (All of them) I think great songs deserve great guitars. To me, Metallica means so much more to me than just music, ITS WAY DEEPER. I invested a lot of learning in reading tabs like these, learning strings, tuning, the whole nine yards because of that passion. This song was definitely one of the ones that I wanted to learn first and I never EVER thought I’d be able to play guitar in my entire life. This video IS THE REASON I CAN PLAY IT NOW!!! I practiced HOURS AT A TIME playing this song over and over and over and over and over until I got the parts. No more pretending I’m playing, now I’m ACTUALLY playing it which feels so good and literally gives me lots of chills. Playing along to the songs and those live concerts on KZitem connected to my speaker is a different vibe. Everything disappears and it feels like I’m on stage and people are singing along to it. Now I can officially play that song at their speed for the first time after so many years of basically “pretending.” I can ACTUALLY PLAY IT, like wow it feels so unreal. Seriously man THANK YOU for this lesson and tabs and helping me finally learn one of my favorite songs. Your videos help me out a ton and this channel is the reason I can play basically all the Metallica songs I know. It means so much more than what people may think ! 🤘💀🖤

An analog delay is set on quarter notes, also i think i use my old Angry Fuzz from Visual Sound, to put this octavia effect on the left guitar. So few notes, but this global effect comes from the tone and delay mainly.

Ok, i see, so ... 1st thing : this section is so damn composed ! that's why it sounds so good ! 2nd thing : i try to play best i could to be very in tune on my hand vibrato, this section is not so easy to play in deed, you had to put energy in the vibrato, without this, i realize it sounds "crappy". With my normal "lead tone" as i use on every video. 3rd thing : the guitars in the back are the ones you hear at the beginning and at the end of the video. I had them for fun and make things interesting to listen to. One plays James part one octave higher, the other plays a "counterpoint" James plays Live at the end when the crowd sings. Both with analog delay set on quarter note (tempo is 72 bpm) to bring ambiance as you hear in the begin and end. Maybe you guys, are interested in a gear video on what i use and how i use for my Metallica videos ?

Great Work Julien Menard, the best tutorial for that song. In newer mixes of The Memory Remains, there is an additional guitar; maybe you can do tabs for that or comment on the background, if you know something about? kzitem.info/news/bejne/1mpjk3ZpgoOZfXY In the above linked version, at 3:30 you can hear it: the additional guitar plays 3 x 3 notes, likely somewhere on the E-Minor scale (sorry, I have terrible pitch and can't find the note, but as the song is in the key of E-Minor...).
