I remember recording the show and listening to it the next day. My fondest memory was when they debuted a fresh metal band named Guns 'N Roses and it mesmerized me. I rushed down to the local record shop to buy the cassette tape and they had no clue to who they were. Six months later, EVERYONE knew who they were. Thank you Charlie for opening my ears to new music to which I carry on to this day.

Man I miss those days wish we could get them back. I remember waiting for 12 midnight with my little radio and cassette tape ready to record all those songs they played on the show. In those days if you couldn't afford to buy the tapes at Wal Mart you recorded your music from The Metal Shop radio show. Loved it!

OMG! I remember this from way back in the day when I was a partying teenager. It was on Friday nights from 10pm-midnight (I think). It's enough to make an old meta head cry. Thanks for the clip! I just got in a major metal mood and was hoping to find something about this show on the net. This is where I first heard bands like Sinner, Running Wild, Saxon, Slayer, Venom, Accep, WASP, etc, EXCELLENT!! I'm getting hammered tonight in Kendall's honor!

I loved this show! Every Saturday night on my local classic rock station, 12 to 3am. They had a segment where they would invite a metal star to select a song to play. They invited Paul Stanley, and Paul chose "Master of Puppets" and, I swear to God, he went on to praise Lars' drumming ability (It's hard to believe now, but there was a time early in Metallica's career when Lars' drumming was respected). That was 1987, and it was the first time I heard Metallica.

I have a Metal Shop "first time" story too .. I think it was the segment you are talking about, and they someone on -- I think it was kind of a lightweight guy like Jon Bon Jovi -- and he talked about actually being hugely influenced by Scorpions, and chose to play "We'll Burn the Sky" from Tokyo Tapes . That was the 1st time I had ever heard antying by 70s Scorpions

Awesome upload. I grew up in the NYC tri-state area and graduated HS in '84 so this bring back the memories. The audio clip here is from a NYC radio station because the voice over (DJ) at the end says sponsored locally by the now defunct metal club L'Amour (in Brooklyn and also east in Queens). Charlie Kendall hosted Metal Shop. Who's the jock at the end? And the station? WXRK? WNEW?
