Hi Jamshed. I can understand why you might think that there were 6 bonds formed. In this video I was not showing the mechanism, but rather a fast way for predicting the product. The new double bond formation does not happen until the previous double bond has been broken down. I hope that helps clear up the confusion.

Your carbons in the metathesis of alkenes example have 6 bonds. Carbon can only form 4 bonds.

Hi Jacob. You are totally right that carbon is limited to four bonds. If you look at the example - I show a slash through one of the double bonds to imply that bond would be broken and the unslashed double bond would be newly formed.So if you count the bonds without slashes through them, there are a total of four. I hope that makes sense! ~SarahChem
