The one with the frozen room in Artaria can actually be done to get Super Missiles early if you are willing to brave the cold area without the Gravity. I love how this game is designed for sequence breaks. Other metroidvanias, like Hollow Knight, don't really have a right way to go, so you can progress differently each time. This game in contrast definitely has a set order it wants you to take, but is designed to allow skilled players to break that intended linearity just to get some rewards early, and I love that.

Funny thing about the first one, and this is a tip for everyone who plays handheld- this one is a bitch to do handheld due to air sparks for some reason being a lot harder when the Joycons are connected directly to the Switch. Playing in tabletop mode makes it way easier. I think it's some kind of input latency problem or something? I have no idea. Either way- if this one is giving you hell and you play on handheld, it's probably not your fault.

Went for a diagonal shine-spark from the blocks instead, slide under the overhang, store the spark, jump and flash shift to the wall, then fired the Shine-spark, the timing was much easier for my poor reaction time and clumsy fingers to manage, still a tough AF puzzle. Oh, and I had to switch to my Pro controller because I was getting frustrated with hitting the wrong face-buttons in my frantic attempts to beat the puzzle, bigger buttons help a ton

Yeah, I'm not sure this works in earlier games, but if you land on a slope, your speed is high enough to store it again. And you keep momentum after a wall jump. These two discoveries were pretty mind blowing

And then, the secret message in Metroid Fusion comes and says "hold my beer" This puzzles are cool, yeah But Fusion still has the hardest one, specially when you can keep your momentum by wall jumping or sliding, the shine spark doesn't even work in morph ball Still, i'm glad they added many puzzles in Dread, the Shine Spark is my favorite power up

Metroid Dread has an equivalent to Fusion’s secret message: using bombs on Kraid. It’s a difficult sequence break, but they reward the player with an instant kill for managing the feat. The only difference is that there are a few ways to get bombs early.

A very welcome addition was the opportunity to run the Shinespark down. Some will remember that in certain parts you needed to calculate symmetrically a jump to hit Speed Booster blocks that were below a platform where Shinespark couldn't reach them (check Metroid Fusion, for example).

I recommend metroid 3, aka Super Metroid. Easiest (and the most legal) way to play it now would be with Nintendo Switch Online subscription. Don't play the special edition though, it's a hack for those who already played it before.

I love moments too where the level design is set up for you to carry the speed boost for a while even outside puzzles like these. In particular, I think right after you get the upgrade you can activate it and maintain it all the way to the next set area if you do it right

0:30 You don't even have to stop to Morph Ball under the gap; you can slide under to keep your momentum and then just sprint up the slope with the speed boost. Edit: Okay, 0:48 is _way_ easier than I was thinking it was. I apparently did it the hard way. I started the Speed Boost from the next room over, wall-jumped up to the ledge without losing the momentum, slid all the way to the back side of the gap before charging Shinespark, and then rolled back through to launch up to the missiles. So much time wasted, but it was _so cool_ to pull off.

You know, the block I started it from? It's been really confusing for me for a long, long time. Like, here it is, you can destroy it, you can crawl in it, and then what? there's no hidden paths, no pipes, nothing. Why is it there? And it really stuck in my head for a long time. Hours after, when I finally found that tiny hole with rocket tank it instantly clicked together. holyshit.jpg moment
@whiteemerald_6802

@@okbVinyl Yeah! When I think about it, imo, the purpose of that block was clear. It just required some critical thinking. I wasn't smart enough to realize it's purpose but it makes sense. Because what other propose is there other than to morph ball shine spark from it. This reminds me of the puzzle where you had to run up two slopes to get an item. I had no idea that you could continue running from your shine spark if you shine spark into a slope. The game never told you that. But the puzzle was secretly telling the gamer: "Hey. Experiment with shine spark on a slope and see what happens doofus." lol. Basically what I'm saying is that the answer to a puzzle or the purpose of something is right in front of you if you think about it. Great game. Thank you for your reply. I enjoyed reading it. :)

Prior to this, the only Metroid game I'd 100%ed was Samus Returns, because I didn't want to deal with the more complex shinespark puzzles. Whatever they did to the shinespark in this game made it not only tolerable, but fun, and I've 100%ed the game *and* on my second run I did the early Gravity route.

I won't, this is pretty much objectively true. Wall jumps can maintain the speed, that addition alone makes it better.

Although people complained about the Buernia one, I struggled with the Fernia energy part. What I thought you had to do was go into the ice room, speed boost on the lowest floor, jump through the breakable blocks and wall jump to the top floor. There, you had to shoot the door while running (as shooting in the air cancels the boost) then jump into the door, then 2 consecutive wall jumps with a chance you don't destroy enough blocks to wall jump (two blocks at minimum). Then you store the charge and scramble down to use it.

0:47 Alternatively, to give yourself more time, you can start the Speed Booster from the lift room, jump up the ledge, wall-jump up to the ledge with the tunnel, slide into it which will instantly put you into Morph Ball, go on until you reach the other end of the tunnel into a small room where you automatically unmorph, and store the Shinespark there, which will give you more time to set up the Shinespark up the vertical shaft.
