This series is definitely the best for anyone learning to use Metropolix. Thank you for being so clear and precise. Much appreciated

Thanks for changing the pattern a bit. Hard listening to the same demo pattern for parts 1 and 2. Good job I know it was difficult.

Listening to the pattern whilst editing the video was hard too! I’ll keep working on that aspect of these vids.

@@JonKayeLearning I like the way you do things. Someone once said (paraphrasing) "If you REALLY know your material, you should be able to teach it to a five year-old." That's not a sarcasm. That's a challenge.

I've been on the fence for a while about 2 modules in particular - Morphagene, and Metropolix. Both large, expensive , and complex units, so not light decisions. Watching this series, I just hit the button. I went with Metropolix, it will arrive soon. Morphagene can wait for a few months longer, I have other sampler and fx units. With 2 tracks, using a combo of XPO/Plaits/Elements/Rings/Dixie as voices, and Frames/Shifty for messing with the shift registers, I can't even begin to understand yet how these things are going to come out. Thank you for such detailed and informative videos. I have learned a lot more in this series than the Intellijel livestream or even Mylar/Loopop/Cinematic Lab have done.

I’m glad you enjoyed the videos! I think you’ve made a good decision. It’s a great module. So powerful. I used to have a Morphagene too and sold it. I found it very difficult to get usable sounds out of it but that might have just been me…

@@JonKayeLearning I think I made the right choice too. With Beads, Z-DSP, Rings, Pico DSP, and the FX section on Blck_Noir, and a Bitbox for sampling, I think I can hold off from Morphagene on that front. I'll still get it, but it can wait. What my rig really needs is a proper f***ing sequencer that does things in a deliberate manner. Marbles, Frames, Euclidean Circles, Grids - All great, but none of them really deliberate. 0-Ctrl bonkers as can be, but no quantization. BSP, also great, but no CV in. All my other sequencers are great in their own ways, but none of them quite right for what I am trying to do. Metropolix looks like the solution.Track one into a bassline and track two through the shift register into 4 different melodic voices, all in perfect harmony? I get the feeling this module will be worth every cent and more.

THanks for a great tutorial series Kompa55. I just got my metropolix three days ago. And this is a good quick start for learning the functions.

Good timing for you! I’m still going through the manual myself. It can be very deep. Loving how easy it is to get something simple playing and then how complicated you can make it if you really know how to use the different functions.

Nice video! One way to take advantage of the Ratcheting for something musical is to use it in combination with the Accumulator - if you give a step a ratchet and then make sure the accumulation mode for that step is 'ratch', then every 'ratchet' step will accumulate the pitch, so you can give a single step a little arpeggio. There's a hell of a lot to learn with this sequencer, I've had mine 5 months and still finding really basic stuff out in people's vids

Hey these videos are awesome thanks so much for making them. i've had the metropolix a few months and love it, but I've learned a few great new tips that are already leading to more interesting sequences and opening the module up beyond what I had been doing. Thank you!

There is a secret combination that when set will keep you in a permanent state of trance. Unless a friend is there to unplug the power, time as you know it will freeze, as you become one with musical infinity. Here’s to your Metropolix quest, save these tutorials to guide you, and do try to share the sacred portal if found.

What is providing the drum track in the background? Is it some collection of modular gear producing the drum sounds and patterns or is it some external gear synced up via MIDI or the clock signal from the metropolix?
@JonKayeLearning

Drums in this video are from a Roland TR-8S which is driving the tempo of the Metropolix. In some of the other videos I’ve used some drum modules triggered by the metropolix itself which also works pretty well making the palette case a stand alone groove box.

nice video super helpful - are you using the gate out on the metropolix when creating the multiple notes in the ratchet section or is this being done by the metropolix combination of gates and ratchets ?
@JonKayeLearning

Not sure I understand the question 100% but I wasn’t using the gate out on the metropolix for this video.

@@JonKayeLearning so the multiple notes generated at around 1:09 with gate stretching off are just down to gates and ratchets on the metropolix ?
@JonKayeLearning

@@grayster1000 You can set each stage to have multiple notes using the pulse count sliders. Each note will be the same length. I go through this in Part One. Then you can also mess with ratchets and gate lengths to get different timings with multiple notes (ratchets) filling the gate length. Hope that helps!

@@JonKayeLearning I am good with that but when I use your settings with just track 1 to my STO with time stretch off with pulse count of 2 and ratches on one stage only the stage flashes multiple times but it plays a continuous note - I also have gate type switched to multiple (3 dashes on the switch) ???? I have followed you vid for the settings but still get a held note which I have tested by a super slow clk and its one note - all very strange ??
@JonKayeLearning

@@grayster1000 sounds like the metropolix is set up correctly (I assume you have left gate length set up as standard at 50%?). The only other thing I can think of is the envelope you are using to trigger the STO. Ie are the metropolix gate outputs triggering a short enough envelope to allow multiple ratchet notes to be heard?
