Out of all the KZitems I've watched for all the years I've casually been in this hobby, from prime92 to Vegeta to rrobert to 2old4 etc, you're one of the few who understands that's the build is equally or more important than simple articulation and quality and should somehow be represented in video reviews. Very in depth and only in 35 minutes. That deserves a sub. Cheers.

Hey Citrus, I have a couple of answers as to the movable armor parts that you were confused about. The shoulder armor flips upwards as a maintenance feature. Not only does this stay true to the life-size statue that once stood outside Gundam Base Tokyo, but it's a lot more realistic and actually appeared briefly in the show, when the Gundam was getting the Magnetic Coating installed in Episode 40. The fold-down V-badge on the crotch also has to do with the show. That section of the armor sticks out because it serves as storage for a heat-proof film, which Gundam used in Episode 5 of the series as it had to enter Earth's atmosphere without the White Base.

The Ver. Ka. looks so dorky next to this, you can really see how much more refined and sophisticated of a design this is over the straight Ver Ka, it's interesting to see the design philosophy evolve, a move toward more hard edges and geometric forms, and now we have a move toward these multitudes of edges emulating an organic form. I can't wait to see what the next iteration of design philosophy will be, I'm thinking the G40 may be the standard bearer.

The crotch opening gimmick is to contain the heat-proof film used by the Gundam in like one episode or something. Yeah, Mobile Suit Gundam was sometimes.. weird. I guess it makes sense to have that in the case the shield can't be used for atmospheric re-entry. I like how this model takes something from every iteration of the RX-78-2, both mechadesign-wise and model-wise, and adds a bit of stupidly-excessive designs into it. I like it because it feels so solid, outside of the chest being very weak, and I'm also a sucker for the look of the 1/1 Gundam design. I heard the MG RX-78-02 (the one from The Origin) is a great (and probably the best) iteration of the Gundam in MG form. I'll have to try to get it at one point. Also, hi Mr. Scissors!

In the old Gundam 0079 manga by Kondo the crotch opens to spray some coolant (? It wasn’t specified) at the shield held in front of the Gundam for atmospheric re-entry. Unpopular opinion but I hate how the origin MG looks. I followed The Origin manga as it released, the MG does not have the manga look. It’s clearly supposed to be the Origin design from the torso armament and shoulder cannon, but the head- torso proportions is off - the head looks too small. The knee armor gimmick is not true to the manga design and looks hideous when the Gundam bends its legs hard. The MG also stuck a ball joint onto the front of each ankle armor(?!) just to add more poseability.

I just finished making this with my son. Three things: the arms cannot stretch out fully, I even had to dismantle one of them and put them together but it was futile. The underknee part (that tiny grey part on the limb) doesn't want to get attached, and I lost one flying out all by itself. I guess these were caused by the extremely hard attachments for the ball-joints like the one at 10:08, so the elbows, the shoulders, and the knee were all super janky. Oh well, we had fun!

wow this is a beautiful looking model. i am new to bandai models and i am very glad that there is no glue required to build and that you can just enjoy building without time restraints. as a "seasoned" lego builder i highly enjoy building and gluing the models together was the main drawback for me and the reason i didn't buy more than 3, but when i saw this review and saw that no glue, or even paint, is required, it sparked my interest and i am now looking to order this one. i was just wondering if there is a sheet for what parts to apply the decals to before building the model so that way once you do that it is all ready to be built with no stops, but that isn't much of a big deal. i have also heard that these 1/100 scale models are tricky to build for beginners but while i was watching it did not strike me as extremely challenging, but rather near what it is like to build lego, except with different instruction style and a large variety of self cut out pieces. do you think it would be hard for me as a beginner? maybe i should order the 1/144 scale version to get used to it

I've seen tons of review videos of RX 78-2 3.0 and The Origin, skipping right away at the articulation mark to specifically find which one has more ab crunch and your videos were the definitive one. Prior watching your videos, I was really set to buy the Origin version for its ab crunch articulation. But after watching this and your origin review, I changed my mind to just get 3.0 since the articulation of the ab crunch of the two isn't that big to sacrifice the other details 3.0 is offering. Now, I'm thinking to just go straight to PG instead.

At what point in the assembly do you use a topcoat? I’ve seen videos talking about doing it after it’s assembled and just taking the arms and legs and a few other pieces off to apply a topcoat, but wouldn’t that cause problems with the joints getting stuck?

But holy fuck I wish they would wise up and start putting out serious quality, especially in regards to electronics, because competition for knock off parts and even resin conversions are gaining serious traction and gaining more and more market share from potential sales. I want infinite dimensions quality resins from bandai that dont cost without what Bandai would cost with their current price scaling. I'm looking at you, metal builds. If bandai would give me $200 MG resin kits with serious detail I would shell out big amounts of money.
