MY NOTES:
POWER BANK TIPS
What is a Power Bank?
- typically a pocket-sized portable charger designed to charge any supported electronic devices when you're on the move or far away from an electrical outlet.
Power banks use Lithium Batteries too
- Same rules apply 30-85% Charging Habit
- BUT, you don't have to do that
- Power banks are meant to be used as an external or extra battery for your smartphone
- Use it as much as you want
- Buying power banks are cheaper than buying a new phone
- BUT if you are the type to hold on to your power bank for longer use, that's up to you
REMINDERS:
1) Power Banks Have Lower Capacity than What is Advertised
- Brand new 10,000mAh capacity means around 6-8,000mAh only: more or less depends on the quality
- Used power banks have much lower capacity than it claims
- Fake power banks have the worst actual capacity than promised
- Capacity Power Bank (mAh) ÷ Accu Capacity Device × 0.7
- Rule of thumb; buy a power bank with minimum of 2-3 times your phone's batt capacity
- that should fully charge your phone at least once or a little bit more
2) Do not charge power banks and your device at the same time
- avoid pass through charging
- this will double heat production inside the power bank
- it will deteriorate the power bank much faster
3) Extreme Temperatures are bad
- Temperature between 5 and 25 degrees are best
- Temperature below or exceeds that will result to irretrievable capacity losses
- Do not charge or use power banks in direct sunlight
- do not cover power banks with clothes, blanket while in use as this will trap the heat
4) Power Banks have 300-500 Times Cycles too
- Since there is no way we can actually see a battery cycle count of a power bank, it is best to estimate the frequency of use
- If estimation is not an option, observe if the power bank can keep up with your phone
5) Do Not Keep Power Bank on Bags or Pocket w/ Metal
- Metal could short the output and cause sudden ground
- or worse, explosion.
- Lithium battery explodes.
6) If Stored for Longer Period, Maintain Charge at around 50-60%
- Lithium batteries degrade faster when stored fully charged
- Lithium Batteries stored at a very low percentage could end up dead and unusable next time you use it
- So the safest percentage is 50-60% when storing the battery for long period of time
7) Buy Only Trusted Brands
- Simple reason of Quality
- Fakes and knock-offs could damage your phone's battery or cause fire by accident
8) Shorter Cable is Best
- Longer Cables waste a lot of current as the electricity has to travel llonger
- Longer cables also reduce voltage frequency
THESE ARE JUST RECOMMENDATIONS
- if any of this recommendation does not fit your lifestyle, you have no obligation to follow any of this.
- power banks are cheaper than buying a new phone, so push the limits of your power bank instead of your phone's battery
- But if you prefer longer life for your power bank, consider these recommendations.
