The movie had such a high standard to live up to when compared to the tv series, which was ground breaking for that time. Michale Mann was also excellent in his production with the use of light and music. Also, Jan Hammer wrote up to 15 minutes of original music per episode and casting was held to a high standard. Hard to recapture that in a movie. Still, I liked it. But I still preferred the tv series.

You need to see some films outside of the hype. Growing up on the Miami Vice tv series then years later having Michael Mann's film 'Heat' go down in my books as the best film ever made, I soiled myself when I heard Miami Vice the film was coming out. I was so disappointed after watching it but watched it again a year later and saw the genius of Michael Mann being ahead of his time. This is a real good movie.

@@mamsf All the rumors were Foxx did ruin the movie, he wanted way more money after a agreed to salary when he won for Ray which hurt the budget/story, then he opposed the gun violence, would not stay at places he thought was too dangerous which meant a bigger shootout was just taken out of the movie but then Foxx does Django unchained despite claiming he was against guns/violence. Foxx was not even good in the movie, they certainly didn't need him.

This movie might have been alright on its own, but putting the Miami Vice name on it ruined it because it has nothing to do with Miami Vice. I am a huge fan of the series and Mann butchered it with this movie. I liked it. I'm a big fan of Michael Mann. I wanted more out of what this promised, but it is still great -- and bad, too. Nothing against Colin Farrell overall, but they should have cast someone else as Crockett. I have a feeling he wasn't Mann's first choice, though he doesn't ruin it. There's just some lines he misses on -- but he is good in this scene. I used to think the girl was a mistake but I get what Mann was going for now and think it's smart casting. She is totally exotic and that exemplifies Miami Vice. Love the way it's filmed. And some very memorable lines and moments throughout. He should make a better sequel.

What's interesting is that the film's plot is very similar to an episode of the series and played out too much like it. I just think they chose the wrong episode. It didn't feel like a 'film' to me as a result. I was a little disappointed by the lack of style or music in it. The tracks were mostly a letdown and there was no romance to the whole drug/vice angle that the series made popular. The bad guys didn't seem like they were enjoying their livelihoods. Everyone was 'too good at what they do'. The bad guys didn't have any slip ups, and neither did the cops. The climactic shootout was okay, but since it was so dark, you can't really get much out of it. Although I was tired of the whole 'double cross me, double cross you' play by play that mired the story. How the bad guys managed to stay in operation after basically screwing everyone they meet didn't help things.

Yeah, he knew what he was doing. Right on par with the Scarab/Voices scene from the original Miami Vice TV show. Love how he straps her in and then pushes the throttles all the way up. He was thirsty for those Mojito's.

Absolutely the best scene! All the sex and tension all in one moment! "And I'll be gonnnne!" Fuckin' awesome! Most people didn't understand this movie, because it's not an action film. or even a crime film... it's an opera.

Great movie directed by a top ten director of all time based on probably the greatest show of all time also created by that director Mike Man. Ty for Collateral & Last of the Mohicans *& Heat., Mike , you're an inspiration to us all art and Film junkies.

Michael Mann definitely recaptured the magic of the 80s Miami Vice with this movie. Too bad they didn't make it a series of movies, like the Borne Identity. They'd have a sure-fire blockbuster! Only thing missing, is some Jan Hammer tunes...

And there's also one thing I noticed - it's like Miami Vice, you can feel that, but it's also soooooo 2006. The music, the cars, that vibe.

The best scene ever take the offshore powerboat to get some drinks straps her in and drops the hammer no talking just hanging on with the roar of those 1000plus hp v8s screaming across the ocean.

This movie is the most romantic movie from the XXI century. Isabella and Crockett relationship will stand overtime as an archetype of tragic love. An impossible love doomed by inevitability. This is a true melodrama. The songs fit with the almost palpable images (and beautiful colours) like lemon and mint in a mojito or if you like like salt in sea water. The rest of the plot and all other characters are mere artifacts to wrap the true essence of the story. I watch time over time this movie trying to save Isabella and Crockett from their fatal end. I'll still try.

Last film I watched in Curacao, before leaving my wife. Gut wrenching. We both sat on the steps in the heat afterwards. Like yesterday. I lived in The Bahamas years before. We were smashing this shit in the 80s. We did not take boats to go for drinks, we took aeroplanes. The closest thing to this scene for me was driving through Beirut at top speed with locals in a BMW convertable going from the port to Kaslik where we lived. That was pretty cool.

Criminally underrated film simply because it was no longer the 80’s. I remember when it came out a lot of complaints that it wasn’t close enough to the original . I loved the original and have the complete boxset, this 2006 movie is as close as you can get for the time it came out. Simply gorgeous in how it was shot and the characters were portrayed realistically. You couldn’t get away with a pet alligator on a yacht in 2006 😂

The exterior boat shots are a great nod to the original series. Season 1 “Calderone’s Return: Calderone’s Demise” Some of the best few minutes of 80s television.
