Bear Creek Rd is one of the twisty roads in the Santa Cruz mountains. As driven from Highway 17, the uphill section is narrow, twisty with changing elevation and camber. Quite a few turns are blind with reducing radius, which require patience to not go too hot into the corner. The downhill section start from intersection with Route 35 / Skyline Bld and instantly offers much wider road, floaty turns and good pavement. Patience is still a virtue, especially with a big dip just before the corner as featured at 2:17.
This is one of my favorite roads. If driven early morning, it could be found free of traffic, but luck is needed mid-morning, as seen on this video, some traffic should be expected. As with many Santa Cruz mountains roads, some debris and rocks could be found on the road especially in the narrow-twisty section and not sending it into blind corner is a key for a happy morning drive.
