It’s very interesting to watch this knowing he later called making this movie the worst experience of his career, you can see how unhappy he is talking about it!

God love him, he's so refreshingly anti-machismo. It's amazing to watch him squirming, trying like hell to be polite about Sheen. The only character that was over the top, obnoxious, and unlikable was Hawkins (Sheen).

anti-machismo is a good way to describe him, you can tell he's not way into himself and that comes across in his performances, he's a genuine actor. Him and Charlie Sheen had good chemistry in this film, they did another film together, but yeah, Biehn hated Sheen's character, which was rewritten, and I think that is what he's alluding to in this interview, that the re-writing screwed things up.

yes, loved this movie nevertheless and James Curran's still one of my favourite MB rôles and I must say I was disappointed when I heard years ago that he considered it as his worst professionnal experience. Obviously made a good job because in the end the movie is fine, their "technical/script" difficulties didn't show on screen, so, congrats. Think Mickael and Charlie almost rewrote the script, don't kow whose idea the rescue scene was but I liked this scene particularly. MB is talented (and gorgeous, true) as usual

Despite the reputation of this film, Michael Biehn's performance in it was very good. He was obviously hoping the film itself could match his performance, and that bummed him out. He was best at playing soldiers/leaders, and James Curran was one of his stand out roles. The one thing that elevates Navy Seals above mediocrity is Michael Biehn's performance. He's a tremendous actor.

better than Top Gun imho. No disrespect to Tony Scott who did an excellent job polishing what it is and that chrome is killer, as always. But as an actual script and ride, Seals for me too ✌

Michael wasn’t too happy with the movie. He didn’t think the director was particularly talented and didn’t have too much of a resume. He said he joined because Charlie Sheen was attached and back in 1989/1990, Charlie was a rising movie star. Sheen destroyed his film career and reputation as a good actors within a few years by staring in crappy movies. Michael Biehn, you could see was trying to make the most of the roles he was given. He did some high profile movies like Tombstone and The Rock and Planet Terror in supporting roles. Unfortunately, he kind of went under the radar once he stopped staring in James Cameron movies.

The director of Navy Seals was actually talented and made a few cult films, it's just that Biehn didn't get along with him personally. I've seen interviews where Biehn praised Michael Bay and the work they did on The Rock, and that movie (and well as Bay) are hot garbage. Biehn's dislike of this film is personal - probably a bad time in his life or the fact it under-performed when it should've been a hit. It had a great cast that were tipped for A-list status in the 90s but it never happened for them except for Bill Paxton. Biehn continued making a lot of solid films after Navy Seals, they just weren't box office hits. He's a great actor and his performance in this film is what makes it watchable.

@@dougmasters4579 he doesn’t have any good movies… are u counting Jewel of the Nile? Navy Seals is a forgettable snoozer though many 90s movies would follow it’s lead. Joanna Whaley is all I remember. Demi’s Seal movie was better.

@@sahej6939 The director of Navy Seals, Lewis Teague, made cult films like Alligator and Cat's Eye in the 80s. He was known for a fast style of direction which suited Navy Seals down to a tee - the film has excellent pacing. Navy Seals may not be much to the average movie viewer, but it is popular with fans of action movies from the 80s/early 90s golden age.
