Expozine 20 presents an artist's talk by none other than the hyper-prolific, award-winning comic artist and illustrator Michael Deforge. Michael will be talking about his life in comics over the past decade-and-a-half, beginning with his start making posters and zines (and participating early on in his career at Expozine!) He's currently a nominee for the Doug Wright Award for Best Book, a Harvey Award for Book of the Year, and the LA Times Book Prize for Best Graphic Novel. He recently won an Ignatz Award for Outstanding Online Comic for Birds of Maine, which he continues to publish on Instagram @birdsofmainecomic .
Michael DeForge lives in Toronto, Ontario. His comics and illustrations have been featured in Jacobin, The New York Times, Bloomberg, The Believer, The Walrus and Maisonneuve Magazine. He worked as a designer on Adventure Time for six seasons. His published books include Very Casual, A Body Beneath, Ant Colony, First Year Healthy, Dressing, Big Kids, Sticks Angelica, Folk Hero and A Western World.
His completed daily comic, Leaving Richard's Valley, is archived and available to read on Instagram.
