There is a rumour that Michael Jackson didn’t put all of the best recordings on the ‘Invincible’ album, because of issues he was having with Sony Music, such as knowing they were going to sabotage the promotion of the album on its release. Which is what happened. It’s interesting, that not long after Michael Jackson and Prince signed recording breaking deals with their music labels, both started to have problems with their labels.

Not sure what people mean when they say this album was unfocused, when he was consistent with all the topics he was singing about. Guess some fans prefer the more happy go lucky songs from him. This album was pretty raw and uncut, and i love it for that reason. Most of the album is solid imo, with the exception of maybe 3 or 4 songs that I'm a little iffy on.

I think ‘HIStory’ would have been Michael Jackson’s greatest album of every song was solely written and produced by himself. I don’t think Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis were suited as producers for Michael Jackson. Michael Jackson was met with complete silence and no claps etc from Sony Music executives when he and his sound engineer Bruce Swedien (who’s confirmed this story) played the music executives the ‘HIStory’ album. This is the start of the deteriorating relationship between Michael Jackson and Sony Music. Prince is rumoured to have met Michael Jackson in the New York ‘Hit Factory’ recording studio (were MJ was recording ‘HIStory’) were they are alleged to have spoken for a few hours about problem they were both having with their music labels. But Michael Jackson’s assistant recording engineer Brad Sundberg has no knowledge of this ever happening. The album ‘Blood On The Dance Floor (HIStory In The Mix) wasn’t released with the fully blessing from Michael Jackson. He just wanted it released as a 4 song E.P., but Sony Music insisted on releasing it as a full album with extra remixes.

This past winter, I took a break from listening to Michael Jackson to get into Prince and when I came back, the fanbase was dealing with this whole Leaving Neverland disaster. In the wake of that documentary, I developed a whole new appreciation for HIStory. These were his most personal and vulnerable lyrics yet and the themes in the music are still so relevant. It must have been stressful being an MJ fan in the 90's because the media had a certain narrative they wanted to frame around him. As an almost 19-year old woman, I grew up with the Internet and I have easy access to sources to research the case with. I can't imagine how intense this album felt during the time it came out.

@edatube7616
5 жыл бұрын
@@PrincesFriend Having solid proof on these things is very important, especially on accusations that are so heavy. And even if there was an agenda to push the narrative that he was guilty, the media really only had his eccentric lifestyle to go off of. He kind of had a reputation for being "weird" to the public before the allegations, so I think that some people back then may have just put two and two together and thought that he swarmed himself with children because of...what they thought he was guilty of. And maybe others looked at the situation and sympathized with him, because he had spent most of his life in the public eye, even during his formative years, and understood why he preferred the company of children and that the position he was in made him vulnerable to extortion. In spite of the media storm, he did have a lot of support, from both people in show business and outside. But a lot of the songs on HIStory, especially Stranger in Moscow, definitely paint a picture of how lonely he must have felt st that time.

I love your review bro! I wouldn’t say it’s the “best” MJ album. I always side with Dangerous, just because it was so huge, I like the era slightly better and it feels more like an album. Whenever I listen to these tracks, I put on my own sequenced playlist which include most songs from HIStory and 2 or 3 from the BOTDF album that felt like an extension basically. I go back n forth with the original Scream track and also the remix with the classic Larry Graham sample. That’s just amazing. Goes together well for me. I even have a playlist where the first song is the Scream remix and the last song is of course Thank You Faletten me b mice elf lol I prefer the uncensored version of They Don’t Care About Us because he was making a good point which got over-shadowed by some people’s miss-perception, or downright fake outrage. They tryna tell the man who wrote ‘Black or White’ that he’s racist or prejudice? People are ridiculous lol But yeah, love these tracks. I liked hearing him angry but again it makes me sad because of what he gone through. I think my favorite track is “Tabloid Junkie”.... or “They Don’t Care About Us” or damn there’s so many good songs lol HIStory is one of my favorite motivating songs. Though I completely understand your critique and I somewhat agree but it works for me It’s like a 7.7/10

I'll edit that comment while I watch: 9:58 Me: I had to pause to Google "How to srtongly disagree" XDDD To me D.S is the start of Hi(s)Story, literally. It's a "No one asked for it, but here's me and my opinions, deal with it" I love this songs on so many levels it's crazy 14:43 No that make sense. Think about it, if you feel the world is unfair to you you'll probably scream your heart out, and once you calm down maybe you'll start saying "OK ok, wait let's sit down and talk, I'll explain everything to you, but please stop hitting me, it hurts" 15:17 met me fall in love with the man and the artist 😍😍😍😍😍 he's so beautiful 17:17 OK I still didn't watch your view on this song but to me History is the weirdest ever, like I three songs in one its so weird and I love it! Also I think the song makes more sense with the lyrics (I'm French so sometimes I choose to not understand the lyrics...its a skill) 19:35 naaaah don't forget the title HiStory. His story. So at the end it shouldn't resolve it has to be a "to be continued" feeling. Like think of it as a book or a film not an album. Would you finish a book by "and this is how he grew up. The end". No ! But "and with a sad but hopeful smile, he grabbed his bags and resumed his journey on this beautiful road." sounds better, looks better. And since it's about him, it's not going to end on a happy note. He was immensely sad but wanted to keep going. This last song perfectly reflects this

Did you ever do a video on the MJ allegations? That might be too controversial, I know it raises a ton of passions on all sides. I won't go into it here but I find it difficult but fascinating subject. HIStory has some of my favorite MJ tracks ("Scream," "Stranger in Moscow," "Earth Song," "They Don't Care About Us") and some of my least favorite ("Childhood," "D.S.," "Come Together," "2 Bad."), but overall I enjoy the album. Honestly, I'd probably give the record 3.5/5. That may sound low but it's just so uneven. For later-career MJ, I largely prefer Invincible even though I consider it just as uneven as this one. For me, his last great record was Dangerous which is still a bit uneven as an album. He works best when his albums were around 10-12 tracks. I've experimented and made my own version of this album in a playlist with tracks from Blood on the Dance Floor that turned out pretty awesome.

Michael Jackson never said “I’m not black I’m Michael Jackson”, it’s other people who would say that. The urban myth comes from from some people own interpretation on the song ‘Black Or White’. Michael Jackson also never turned his back on the black community. He was also very close to Jackson family friends like Rev Al Sharpton , Jesse Jackson and Muhammad Ali etc. A little know fact is that Michael Jackson had been working on ‘Earth Song’ since the start of the recording sessions for ‘Bad’ in 1986. I disagree with you about ‘D.S.’, which I think is an awesome song and one of the best on the ‘HIStory’ album. Nile Rodgers plays guitar on ‘Money’, and the song brought him out of a self-imposed from the music industry, as noted in Nile Rodgers autobiography. There is a longer version of ‘Come Together’ (Moonwalker Version), that was released as the ‘B-Side’ to the single ‘Remember The Time’ in 1992. The ‘HIStory’ album version is an edited down version more in line with the original The Beatles version. Childhood is too You Are Not Alone, is a song I’ve never liked. HIStory is a brilliant song, only flaw being the news edits in it are too long at the end.

This album did exceptionally well, including all the singles .. everywhere outside of the U.S., where the media/ radio etc pretty much snubbed most of it, hence why Sony pretty much pulled all promo in the U.S not long after You are not alone charted.

Well compared to other artists, but it pales when held against his past releases.

Yeah true, but this was the mid 90's , the industry had changed dramatically since the 80's blockbuster era, not even he would be capable of achieving those previous record-breaking sales figures, even if his image remained untainted. Plus, it was packaged as a pricey double CD.

The Story Behind Stranger in Moscow Was He Wrote The Song During His Stay In Moscow During the Dangerous Tour in 1993. Though The Fans Outside Of His Hotel Was Screaming Their Love & Support, He Felt SUPER Lonely & Sad With Everything That Was Going On, and Thats how the song came about!

I think this is my 3rd or 4rd favorite album .. this album showed his angry side and sad side my favorite songs off the album is scream, you are not alone, earth song, blood on the dance floor, money, come together , tabloid junkie ,they don’t care about us and stranger in Moscow they all should have been number ones Fun fact... blood on the dance floor was actually already made in the early 90s same with earth song and come together was already made in the late 80s can you review his earlier albums also that he made from 1970-1976

I’m the type of MJ fan that skips his schmaltzy songs like Childhood and Earth Song. Favourite songs from History: Scream, Stranger in Moscow and Tabloid Junkie. The Cirque show Michael Jackson One opens with Tabloid Junkie. I went to buy insanely overpriced drinks during Earth Song. The show is a must for any MJ fan.

History so many memories of this album. I was working in central London at the time and mj had his statue floating on the river Thames all summer to promote it!! Used to listen to this album walking over London bridge looking at his statue 😁 stranger in Moscow is stunning just stunning. The lyrics I'm living lonely so heartbreaking. The prison video for they Dont care about us Is so powerful!! Remember being dumb struck at the video for earth song just incredible!! So many great tracks on this album. Really was incredible at the time to see MJ actually get mad and vent his anger in his music. I also saw the history tour at Wembley stadium back in 97.

There's no doubt it's a fantastic album. All his albums from "Off The Wall" to "History" are excellent. Disc 2 seems to be a bit more like a collection of songs and a bit less like a cohesive album compared to the four prior to that and the way it has disc 1 as a greatest hits and disc 2 as new songs adds to that feeling. The upside of it maybe feeling less cohesive is it was able to cover a wider scope of themes and types of music. Dangerous perhaps felt less cohesive than the Quincy Jones albums but it was still awesome and History seemed to maybe take things a bit further in the direction of less cohesiveness but more freedom (for better or worse but either way it was still fantastic). I guess it is unified in the sense of it being a much more personal album though. I'm really glad he made this album. Also it was his last really great album. Blood on the Dance Floor was mostly history songs remixed with some new songs as well. Invincible is a good album but not great or at best great/very good if we're generous (because it's a Michael Jackson album so it's important) but it's certainly not excellent. All of his music is an important part of his cannon though whether it's Jackson 5 or The Jackson's or his solo albums before Off The Wall or the song We are The World.

Hey Princes friend, I love all your review videos about Prince and I’m glad you are doing MJ too since they are both my favorite artists, I seen the other day you posted a video with another guy where you talked about the musical style of MJ and I want you to refer to this particular KZitem.com account because if you listen to these extended mixes you can really hear the musicality of MJ all the little sounds most people don’t notice can be heard, listen to songs like Working day and Night or Billie Jean or Don’t stop Til you get enough... but I will just leave you a link to Billie Jean here. I think you will love it kzitem.info/news/bejne/y4Nr34NjkIxmln4

Great review. I agree with you on You are not alone. About the song History, I cannot play it until the end. I have to skip ! Out of the 15 songs on this album, I only kept 6 : Scream (I had the same thought about Childhood being the 2nd track, on the CD single) / They don't care about us (I didn't like this song at first, because I thought it lacked a melody) / Stranger in Moscow / Earth's song (my favorite, with members of Toto playing on it) / Little Susie (I really dig the sadness of this song, probably one of his best vocal performances) / Smile. Come together is not on this list, because I have the longer version, which was on the Remember the time CD maxi single (plus, it was included in the Moonwalker movie, so I never considered it being a part of HIStory.

My fav album too!!! I really like the middle of the song History! Everyone enjoys diff stuff! Little Susie was a great song cus it’s not only beautiful but shows how Michael cares about children & is very much aware of the real problems in the world!! Many children r left alone & accidents or bad things happen!! EARTH SONG is my all time fav!! Concert version is the best!! Can u imagine being in Munich, the wall has just come down, Michael does this song & finishes w a tank on stage? I bet they went WILD!!!!! Michael had some crazy ideas that really worked!! The saddest performance I’ve ever seen is Janet performing SCREAM shortly, I think a week, after Michael passed, ... they danced together 1 last time!! Michael on large screen, & Janet on stage!! She looked like she would burst into tears any moment!! It was BEAUTIFUL!! I’m so disgusted that Wade conned his way onto that stage w Janet .. she would be too kind to say no!! The rest of the album is also terrific but these r my favs!! ps. Sorry this is so long!! PEACE & LOVE from Philly LOVE your reviews!!!!! 🇺🇸👍🕴🏻💕
