It's unfortunate that Bruce Lee is now being compared this way as a fighter and everybody has over hyped his status in the wrong way. People who say he ain't shit now are missing a huge point in that it is like saying "I'm a better driver than the guy who developed the racing engine" You wouldn't be driving that fast today if that guy didn't step up and create a different dynamic that changed the standards. Pioneers and people who raise the bar are the ones that point the way so people have a level to reach and surpass. That is what Bruce was and is the guy that said "It can be done".

One thing I will add in defense of Bruce. Michael is bigger and stronger yes, but Bruce's greatest asset was his speed. He had demonstrated many times how much faster he was than the majority of the fighters of his time. Plus the fact that he had stated he would use anything to win a fight in a hand to hand and that one of his favorite weapons was the finger jab to the eyes. If Bruce did land that blow, which I think he definitely could, it would cause any sized fighter a damage that would hinder him to the point of leaving him wide open for a punch to the throat, a kick to the groin or liver shot. No fight is 100% certain until the fight is over. The street don't have no rules.

Michael Jai White is the monster here. You are talking about a guy that is 100 kg of muscle mass which have 8 black belts and doing movies, but he has used his fame to train with masters from all around the world in several disciplines. Even UFC fighters respect this guy. Speed, accuracy and techniques is something this guy knows very well. I have no idea how a fight between Bruce and Michael would end up but someone that massive with tons of martial arts knowledge is extremely dangerous. I have not seen anyone like Michael.

+Katy Lee I agree 100% and yes the black guy is right, size does matter; that's why Bruce cut weight from 170 to 125 because being lighter with no fat and all muscle meant he could move faster than anyone else while still maintaining and incredible amount of power. For example: A bullet is super thin and light, but that's what allows it to move astonishingly fast, and we all know the formula for force right? Acceleration x Mass = Force so in essence the lighter a human frame is the faster it can accelerate which can lead to higher force being exerted on strike as long as the human frame is incredibly muscular for it's size, because we all know muscle weighs more than fat (mass). That black guy probably has like 10% body fat.

I think what Bruce said about the SIZE of his hand was a joke not real because I or my friends sometimes said like Bruce to the people who we are sure to beat too. ninjanizzle You are wrong or misunderstanding. What Bruce said was just a joke. When I watch new documentary " I am Bruce Lee ", one of his friend asked Bruce " Why did you have so many Mohamed Ali video and watch his video so many times ? ". Bruce answered " Because one day I would fight him ". He meant he can fight Ali with boxing, when he is ready. He watch Ali 's fight in order to get familiar with Ali's style as you wrote "I'm studying every move he makes. I'm getting to know how he thinks and moves" and find a way to neutralise it. Bruce Lee defeated 3- time Hong Kong Boxing Champion in his fist time before. Bruce was a genius as many people witnessed. Ed Parker, the father of American Kendo Karate told " Bruce was the best martial artist I ever seen and he is one of 2 billion ". Others such as Jhoon Rhee ( Ali's master in Taekwando ) , Chuck Norris, Jim Kelly, Dan Inosanto, Louis Delgardo etc.....said similar. I think Ali, Tyson or anyone would dare not underestimate Bruce's ability in a boxing fight, otherwise they would be lost for sure

+Lap Vu according to u its a joke, and who r u? bruce never said it was a joke, so he was dead serious. u r assuming because u dont want to accept the truth. bruce knew size mattered. that documentary is on youtube here titled "2012 I Am Bruce Lee" so tell me what exact minute i can see his friend saying this? theres no way they would allow bruce lee to fight ali, he was way too small to face a heavyweight. a fight like that could end in a fatality. fights against fighters of equal weights have ended in deaths. he copied alis boxing because ali was 1 of the best boxers at the time, so who better to learn from? bruce lee defeated this so called 3 time high school boxing champ called gary elms, but if u look for any info on him u find nothing. no records, no interviews not even a single picture. i find that very strange. ali was an olympic boxing gold medalist, a high school tournament isnt worth spit compared to that. also hawkins cheung said he and bruce were using wing chun in the tournament, so their opponents cant have been highly skilled to lose to guys with no boxing experience. bruce lee has no official amateur boxing records to verify anything. ali does. watch the video titled "Bruce Lee, Ted Wong & Dan Lee Hitting Heavy Bag HomeFootage 1960's" on youtube. it should be obvious to u bruce doesnt have better boxing than the first guy on the bag. who trained bruce lee in boxing? even the best fighters had good trainers. go watch ali and tyson on the heavy bag, bruce cannot compare to that. bruce was not a professional boxer and he damn sure wasnt a heavyweight. for u to even think he would stand a chance against ali or tyson is highly delusional. that would be a mismatch of the highest order.
@larryvu9784

I can sense it as a joke and I strongly believe it's the truth. In my life, I met many people talk like what Bruce said as a joke. Bruce think size matter only when both have the martial art skill and speed. At the time of the boxing with Gary Elms, Bruce were only18 years old and not prepared well for that tournament. I accept that Bruce's boxing skill at the time were not well and he used Wing chun in the tournament. To learn that bad experience, Bruce study Ali's fight very carefully and copied Ali's boxing. It was true that Bruce admired Ali and thought Ali was 1 of the best boxers at the time, so Bruce learnt from Ali to prepare for the fight with Ali. I believe Bruce has the chance to beat Ali when he had more experience in boxing. He was faster than Ali and powerful enough to knock down Ali. If you look back at the Rio Olympic at the swimming event, a young man from Singapore beat Michael Phelp ( his idol ) in 200m butterfly ? The same thing happen I other sport like tennis. One young one came up like Roger Federer beat his idol Pete Sampras in 2001 Wimbledon and so on. I did not hear what you report in " I am Bruce Lee" I got a record and the photo of the tournament in Hong Kong. Bruce was a rarely genius and very fast learner and I am very sure he would be a threat to Ali and Tyson. I am sure that Ali and Tyson would not underestimate Bruce in a fight. Are you aware that Ali and Tyson respect and admire Bruce ? Bruce may have to fight other boxers ( assume 4 or 5 boxer from his weight division and up to higher division ) first to get experience as he have more experience than he would feel confident to challenge Ali or Tyson. Bruce would challenge Ali or Tyson when he feel his boxing skill would be well enough to beat them at the right time.

Michael White doesn't embody the essence of martial arts, and doesn't represent it in the right way, or any way. Hes too egotistical, and not humble at all. Also, when you hear him in interviews, he always seem so mad, and like he has a chip on his shoulder. He just irks me. Hes in martial arts for the glory, rather than for something to center him, and to find peace and harmony. He doesn't seem righteous in his actions, and doesn't seem like the good guy that doesn't use martial arts in order to protect the weak, and for self defense, but rather uses it to look cool with his fancy kicks, and whatnot. If y'all trolls would do some research you'll find EVERY single interview of who matters in the martial arts world testifying how out of this world Bruce's skills were. Furthermore, Bruce did not jus study one style, he knew many and he found fundamental flaws in them, that is why he came up wit his own- JKD. MJW has 15 black belts blah blah.. still a follower not a pioneer or leader. @MysticNinjaJay

This is a response to auraskin and Aammaann87. Both of your arguments are fallacious and I will deal with them separately. @auraskin: The main point of interest in your post is the question of how strong Bruce Lee was. Obviously he could not hit like a train which I know is hyperbole on your part (unless you are delusional) but when you are saying a weight advantage of nearly 100 pounds between a man who was 5'7" and about 135 pounds vs. one who is 6'1" and about 230 pounds doesn't matter in a fight I have to wonder what planet you are living on and where your knowledge of fighting comes from because it doesn't come from Martial Arts training, or any type of objective research on weight lifting and strength training. So let me put this in to proper perspective for you.... Bruce Lee was strong for his size. No one who knows anything about him believes he was weak for his size or that because he was a 135 pound Chinese man (what does his ethnicity have do to with anything?!) that he was skinny or weak. If you look at his physique he is what is known in the bodybuilding community as ripped. His forearms are hyper developed. He has extremely low body fat (by my estimate below 6%) and all of his muscles are defined. His body was built for a balance of speed, power and flexibility or as Rick Wing put it in his book Showdown in Oakland: "Lee was 5 feet 7 inches and 140 pounds of taut, hair-trigger muscle." Now anyone who knows anything about weightlifting knows that a man's size puts a limit on how strong he can get. In terms of percentile strength the maximum amount of weight a man can lift is slightly over twice their body weight. That's it. No matter what your size is you can't get much stronger than that. We happen to actually know how much Bruce Lee could lift or at least how much he could curl. According to Christopher D. Hess, a Martial Arts and fitness expert who analyzed Bruce Lee's weight lifting notes, Bruce Lee performed bicep curls using a weight of 80 pounds and 8 repetitions. This equates to a one-rep maximum of 110 pounds and would place him in the 100th percentile for the 121-140 pound weight class. So based on his bicep curl he was about as strong as you could get for a man his size. His squat stats were less impressive so his upper body strength was well above his lower body strength (Joe Lewis noted that Bruce Lee had skinny legs and his real side kicks on the shield and heavy bag in his backyard video don't look that powerful). But let's assume for a moment that Bruce Lee's bench press was close to the 100th percentile for a man weighing 140 pounds (in an interview Bruce Lee said he weighed 135 pounds but his weight fluctuated). Based on my calculation if Bruce Lee could bench exactly twice his body weight he would be able to lift 280 pounds placing him in the 95th percentile for a man his size. Assuming Michael Jai White is proportionally just as strong and can bench twice his body weight (a realistic assumption given his developed physique) he would be able to lift 460 pounds placing him in the 98th percentile for a man his size. So the difference is 180 pounds. In terms of strength this difference is absolutely dramatic. This is greater than the difference between a grown man and a boy. In MMA terms we are talking about a bantamweight fighting a heavyweight here. With that much strength Michael Jai White could knock out Bruce Lee with one punch and seriously injure him or rag doll him. Honestly he could easily kill him with repeated blows. I agree that number of styles you know isn't important it's all about putting what you know together. White however has benefited from modern training and trains with world champion Boxers and Mixed Martial Artists so I believe he has more skill than Bruce Lee did. So even if you want to discount his Black Belts in 8 Martial Arts disciplines that alone would give him the edge. Bruce Lee's street fighting exploits don't mean much. We don't know who he fought. The odds that he fought a 6'1" and 230 pound man with the athleticism and Martial Arts skill of Michael Jai White on the streets of Hong Kong is slim to none. Bruce Lee was a teenager back then and his gang fights have been portrayed as him hanging out with a few school friends goofing off and getting in to occasional fights with local boys (watch Young Bruce Lee). There's also video from Bruce Lee's family archive featuring these rooftop fights he participated in which you can watch on KZitem. The video I saw featured two skinny boys using traditional Kung Fu who looked like terrible and clumsy fighters. @Aammaann87: Michael Jai White did not call out Bruce Lee. He said he could beat him after he was asked a question. As for Steven Seagal, what Martial Arts tournaments did he compete in? Last time I checked Aikido was Seagal's primary discipline. Can you show me a video of Aikido being used effectively in a real fight by Seagal or anyone else? As for Michael Jai White he mostly competed in point Karate which there is video of but also Kyokushin Karate which is full-contact (no punches to the face). White's Martial Arts competition wouldn't put him on the level of modern Mixed Martial Artists but way above Steven Seagal. From Michael Jai White's bio on Martialartsentertainment.com: As a martial artist, Michael Jai White holds eight black belts of varying degrees in eight different martial arts forms. He began training in the martial arts at the age of eight and he achieved his first black belt at the age of twelve. He has over twenty years of experience in the arts. He was originally a student of the legendary Shigeru Oyama, (who was, at the time, the world renowned head of the U.S. Kyokushin Karate Association and who is currently the head of World Oyama Karate). Michael Jai White went on to achieve a black belt in seven other karate styles; Shotokan, ITF Tae Kwon Do, WTF Tae Kwon Do, Kobudo, Goju Ryu, Tang Soo Do and in the Superfoot system. Michael tested for and earned his 8th degree Black Belt at the JLFS/Superfoot summer conference on October 11, 2013. He has also had years of Wu-Shu Kung Fu training under current American Wu-Shu team coach, Eric Chen. Michael Jai White has trained privately with the likes of Bill” Superfoot” Wallace, Benny ” The Jet” Urquidez, Shihan Bobby Lowe, Shokei Matsui, Jean Claude Van Damme, James Lew, Don ” the Dragon ” Wilson, Peter Cunningham, Billy Blanks, Gene Lebell and Joe Lewis. Michael Jai White has also worked behind the scenes on stunt fighting sequences with Steven Segal. Michael Jai White himself has amassed countless trophies, awards and Grand Championship honors from open “point System” to inter-federational tournaments both at home and abroad, throughout his twenty-plus years as a martial artist. The U.S. Open, North American J.K.A., World Knockdown Free sparring Champion are among many titles earned by Michael Jai White before he moved to Los Angeles to continue his already successful dramatic acting career. Need I say more? Steven Seagal ducked a challenge to fight Randy Couture in a public exhibition (offered him a private match) and got choked out by Gene Lebell. Fighters such as Cung Le don't appreciate his arrogance and claims to have taught accomplished fighters like Anderson Silva and Lyoto Machida how to do a front kick. Those training videos of him "teaching" them are embarrassing. So Seagal really needs to stop talking shit. He hasn't done anything in competitive Martial Arts competition. Michael Jai White has. He's really just mad because White doesn't consider Seagal to be a serious Martial Artist. By the way he carries himself who can blame him? One more thing, clearly I put some time in to making a serious post. I think I deserve a serious response. If you are going to bother with a response try to avoid the trolling and flaming nonsense you did the other day. I don't have time for that.

the main reason people respect bruce lee is that he ADMITS his limitation. he NEVER says he is god. watch his movie, learn his philosophy, he has shown thousands of times in his movie how to fight an opponent much bigger than him in LIFE-THREATENING scenarios! below are the methods: 1. kick him in the nuts 2. confuse him with fake punches and kicks 3. bite him in the legs 4. tear his chest hair off he will turn DIRTY and NASTY when necessary. so rather than considering him a professional fighter, i would say he is a SURVIVOR. we are talking about real fight, not competition with a set of rules!

Its hilarious how grown men are like little wide eyed kids thinking an actor with ZERO martial arts competition experience could beat the best fighters of his day and today too. Lee was an entertainer who trained in martial arts YES. But he never fought the best in either competition or the street, that is a fact. We see he is quick in choreographed moves but did we ever see if he had a chin to take a hit? Maybe its psychological and people who have low self esteem need to believe a man immortalised on screen is the best ever at fighting. They tale comfort in believing that the MMA guys who can kick their ass today would be destroyed by Lee's lighting quick kicks! Lee dying at an early age in mysterious ways may also romanticise the notion of him being an unbeatable fighting God for ever. So to the martial arts realists, please please don't ridicule the Bruce lee fan boys, they need to hold onto (and further build) onto the myth of his great fighting legacy.

+Rugby Football go ask Mike Tyson, or Sugar Ray Leonard, or Manny Pacquiao or other boxing greats. Go ask people who actually knew Lee, like James DeMile, Dan Inosanto. Then you'll see what Lee did in the non-sport of the street, or the sparring he did with the top names of that era. Ask yourself why Pac Man would say, "Bruce Lee is my hero," and see where the real evidence leads. Lee's focus was not on sport, but on the original 'martial art' which deals with violence -- multiple armed attackers, no referee, no time limit, no rules. It's easy for some to confuse sport with real thing, and literally people can spend their lives believing they're the same thing.

I used to box, and I weighed in at 170 lbs. I once sparred with a 225 lb guy who had less sparring experience than I did and much worse technique, he pretty much only threw overhand rights and straight rights at me while I hit him with everything I had. We sparred for 7 rounds and I landed way more shots than he did, but he basically walked right through most of them, and the few times he caught me it really shook me. If this were a real fight without gear there's no doubt this guy would have knocked me out even with his weak skills. We'll never know who would win but you can't be serious is you think size doesn't matter, especially if you have never been in a fight, and this is a 100lb difference we're talking about.

Stupido feckoff if you know anything about punching techniques how Bruce Lee is punching is Wing Chun Style. He does not fully rotate the palm facing down at the end of the punch. Wing Chun has always been his base of fighting where he reverts too. While the Wing Chun style does not have the same reach as boxing or other forms of fighting the snap is much greater and with the mechanics of this style more punches can be thrown in succession without telegraphing so much. Bruce was no armature at punching, he just didn't punch like everyone assumes one should punch.

I love my brother Michael Jai White but his comment on Bruce Lee is foolish. To flat out say that he would be him based on weight is insane. Especially in the Martial Art. Him, of all people on this planet, should have known better to say that. I would question if he could be Wesley Snipes? Bruce Lee did not fight a physical fight. That's where I was most surprised by his comment. I'm not trying to state some Hollywood bullshit about Bruce either but by the interviews of people from way back when who trained with him like, Grandmaster Jim Kelly (RIP) who would have laughed at Michael Jai for that comment. I believe Bruce would have been Jai within seconds. Bruce was too quick, agile, knowledgeable of the anatomy and too Spiritually conformed for MJW to fuck with in an open sparring match. In other words, Bruce would have fucked him up. Respectfully. Don't ever shit on Bruce Lee's name.

Dude. Weight classes exists for a reason. Be honest here. Obviously, the bigger and stronger guy is going to have a significant advantage. White is a very experienced martial artist himself. Plus, White is pretty fast for his size. He isn't insulting Bruce Lee's name at all. He's just reiterating the opinion that he would win in a fight. It's a very reasonable assumption. Bruce Lee was a great martial artist and he's truly iconic, but we need to remove ourselves from this bias of thinking that he was absolutely unbeatable.

Bruce Lee I didn't say that White would simply win because he is bigger, I said that White's size is a significant advantage. As far as far martial arts experience goes, White actually has more credentials in that department. White has won several tournaments. Bruce Lee did not win any. White has 7 Black Belts. Bruce Lee did not have any. White is 6'0 tall, 230 lbs. Lee was 5'7 tall, 145 lbs. So looking at the facts on paper. White is longer, heavier, stronger, and has *far* more credentials as a martial artist. Now I do not mean any disrespect for Bruce Lee at all. He is a legend and thought ahead of his time in the concept of mixed of martial arts. But looking at all of the facts, the only objective conclusion we can come to is a victory in White's favor for a hypothetical match up.
@TonyMishima92

Bruce Lee Of course we can't say who would win with "100%" certainty. But based on the available facts, it is clear that White's victory would be a safer bet and his comment that he can beat Bruce Lee was far from "foolish" (like the person in the first post said). There is no objective reason to automatically assume that Lee would beat White in seconds.

size can be also a significant disadvantage. More Size / More mass makes you slower and everytime you get on the floor you will have more problems everytime you get back up because for faster drain of Endurance and Stamina. Bruce wouldn't have the Power of MJW, nor he could "tank" some hits like him, but bruce would endure longer, is faster and more agile. MJW would have trouble to even reach him because of his size and mass, eventually he gets tired. It would be an"opposite" match and on those "opposite" type of matches, the one who endures longer, wins. Bruce didn't win any tournament because he simply didn't want to take part. He refuses to fight a fight with rules. Before he was a philosopher, before he founded Jeet Kune Do, he was an exceptional Kung Fu Fighter and fought in the streets where no one could touch him. He was arrogant and a bully until his mind calmed down and listened to reason. Bruce would never fight on UFC because of the rules. On the streets, MJW would have trouble against him. On the Ring it's another story.

One thing that hasn't really been considered here is that if Micheal Jai White was around at the time of Bruce Lee he'd probably of been smaller than Bruce Lee (because of a lack of sports/nutritional supplements), also lacking in the physical abilities of him. And If Bruce Lee was around in this era he could of conceivably made better use of sports nutrition to be as strong as Micheal Jai White. So even Micheal Jai White's argument about size is wrong even if you take away the fact that Bruce Lee had created his own art before 26, which would probably adapt to the regimented arts that Micheal has stubbornly stuck too.

+Sam Mathews Michael Jai White would still be the same height as he is without supplements and as someone who has been training in martial arts a long time it is likely he would have a big frame too to support such activity. However, in my opinion, Bruce Lee would out speed him in every aspect, and if you can imagine what a kick from Bruce lee would be like (surely rock solid, plus Lee's force behind it which as we know, a one inch punch from him carries serious pounds of force) to any part of Jai's body it would surely cause as much damage if not more than anyone twice Lee's size. Because his body was so conditioned his attacks would much more felt, even if Jai was more powerful Force, plus lightning speed and rock solid limbs = Bruce Lee as winner -My opinion

Wow these comments are so funny. I wonder what people would do if Bruce were still alive and these two actually did fight each other in their primes and Michael managed to put Bruce on his back, then what? Just because Bruce was a great master, doesn't mean he can't be beat, he was human like the rest of us. He may have been a bit super human, but unfortunately his death proved that he was human. Bruce was a master of so many different disciplines, and he was such a great person as far as I've seen on t.v., but surpassing most in your craft, doesn't make you invincible. As history has proven over and over again, the best of the best have met defeat at some point in their lives and careers. No one has been or will ever be unbeatable, no matter how great they are in what they do. I think we call that perfection, and so far, no one has been proven to be perfect. Anything is possible, Bruce could've made one wrong move that Jai could've capitalized on and triumphed because of, or vice versa. Even though I feel jai is incorrect in saying he could beat Bruce due to size difference, I don't feel it would've been impossible for jai to beat him if they were to fight in their primes.

He didn't even have William, or Ip's blessing to be doing so, either...lol Lee was an actor dude, that enjoyed working out, and was NEVER a fighter outside of his films. His demo's and training video's CLEARLY show to even a blind man, that he wasn't anywhere near as good as his fanboys claim....I have seen green belts with better form, and more power than Lee...He couldn't even beat little 120 pound sopping wet Wong Jack. They're both Martial Artists. Michael Jai White is a Black Belt in 8 Martial Arts disciplines and has sparred with world champion Boxers and Mixed Martial Artists. Why would you think that someone with that kind of skill who is obviously strong and fit could not beat Bruce Lee? You're talking about the MMA equivalent of a Bantamweight fighting a Heavyweight. He could manhandle Bruce Lee and knock him out with one strike while Bruce would face enormous difficulty doing anything to hurt Michael Jai White.

Bruce Lee was more of an actor than a fighter. Michael Jai White has I think 7 different black belts and is more of a fighter than an actor. Michael is 6 ft tall, Lee is 5 ft 7 so Michael has a longer reach than Lee. Michael outweighs Lee by around 100 lbs. Although Lee is fast Michael is not slow. Michael is bigger and would last longer than Lee. Lee's famous punches and stuff wouldn't be effective against Michael because he isn't gonna stand there and let him hit him. Overall if a fight were to occur between the two it's obvious that Michael would win.

AJ Wash Bruce Lee can backup his reputation, although it is exaggerated a lot. Bruce Lee did not master one single martial art, he incorporated many styles into his martial arts. Bruce would qualify to be black belt, but just because you have a black belt, it does not mean you are a good fighter. He even if invented one Jeet Kune Do, which is effective in a real fight, although Bruce Lee is not limited by it. Bruce Lee was familiar enough with the major martial arts, to fight against them, and also to use them in his advantage. Bruce Lee IQ is above Michael Jai White, even in regards to fighting. Bruce Lee does not even require the upper hand to win, he is fully able to customize his method to win the fight. This does not mean Michael Jai White is just Hollywood, but the truth is he has not shown he is able to fight the caliber of a fighter, such as Bruce Lee. Even by this short video, he relies upon weight as his upper hand, but that is counter acted easily by a skilled fighter.

If I’m going to break it down. The only fighter on planet earth that I think would have a chance at beating Bruce Lee was Mike Tyson at his prime - in a no weapons fight. Bruce was a master of trapping and direct attacks. Tyson was a master of evasive entry with round attacks. The evasiveness of Tyson would have made it near impossible to trap him since his defence was not with his hands. Tysons defence was only with movement. When His hands were revealed - it was only to deliver a deadly blow. I can’t believe I’m saying this but in a fist to fist fight - I don’t see Bruce beating Tyson. But anyone else - the fight won’t last more than a minute. He would trap you and you will not be able to take his barrage of punches that will be coming at you like a Submachine gun. Wow I just developed so much more respect for mike Tyson.

@Fred Forbes these 3 art forms of which you speak are currently primitive still evolving and even now are not at the level that Bruce was soo many years ago. This is not about street fight or wealth. You simply cannot fathom what I’m trying to tell you. Ok currently Jackie chan is one of the best martial artists - Jackie said it was impossible to see Bruce’s attacks. Samo Hung said - Bruce used to go from school to school and fight everyone usually except the teacher so as not to disrespect. A home raised fighter does not create his own artform. Even what you call mma was created by Bruce lee. And mma today is still primitive and still evolving. Yea you were bouncing and street fighting for 100 years but a fight between you and Bruce would have taken like 20 seconds. The fact that you are saying what you are saying tells me you don’t even know. We are talking about principles and artform you are talking about size - for a true master - size is totally irrelevant. I did wing Tsun for over 12 years, i did kempo jujitsu and I’m one away from black. It was when I tried to learn Silat that my mind opened as I was under the tutelage of a spiritual master and realised what true martial arts was. I immediately stopped training as I realised that as a Christian I could not partake in this. So again like I said - you don’t even have an inclining of understanding what you are talking about. After over 18 years of training - one day with this spiritual master changed my whole life. Just one day. Let’s leave it there.

He most definitely would beat Bruce Lee. Like he says, size does matter. It makes a huge difference. But the fact that MJW is very experienced in a wide variety of martial arts and has mastered many, as well as the fact he's in incredible shape.. you can have two guys that are just as good skillwise, but if one is bigger than the other, the bigger guy is going to win at least 9/10. Bruce Lee was the man, I'm a big fan of him as well, but realistically, MJW would beat him. Bruce Lee is just a man, he is not invincible, same goes for MJW, but the fact he's much larger, possibly just as experienced in martial arts (having practiced his entire life in many different styles, and mastering them to a certain degree) he beats Bruce into next week easily. MJW has dedicated his life to martial arts, just like Bruce Lee, but size makes a difference. There's a huge difference in power there. I'm sure Bruce would say the same, that MJW would beat him. I'm not comparing MJW to Muhammad Ali, but remember when Bruce Lee said he'd be murdered by Ali? he looked up to Ali, he used to put his tapes on and try to move and punch like him, Bruce said he'd lose, not only because of the difference in skill, but Ali is simply so much bigger and more powerful.

His Jet-Kune-Do is basically MMA, but more street oriented. I believe that Bruce Lee would be one of the greatest fighters today within his weightclass. But Michael outweights him for 100 pounds, and that's 100 pounds of muscle. He has better reach, and he is a legit martial artist with multiple black belts. He's not just some buffed up guy who doesn't know how to fight. @AJweathersby
9 жыл бұрын
+adon31997 That's not true at all. Speed certainly does not determine the winner. Do you think it's a coincidence that in Judo, bareknuckle karate, boxing, muay thai, and MMA, all these different martial arts separate fighters by weight classes? You can slow down someone's speed by hitting them in the body a lot. You can negate someone's size by fighting in a hit-and-run style so that they can't muscle you. Fighting gets more and more about tactics, and using your natural advantages over your opponent to best use, as you go higher in skill levels. Speed, size, experience, strength, skill, mindset, timing, precision: all of these traits combine differently with different fighters. A fast and strong opponent might lose to someone whose slower, but more skilled, precise and has great timing. Even more so, fighters constantly evolve. So they might get slower, but gain more timing and precision. They might have been strong and had a vicious mindset, but then slim down and learn to fight smart instead of hard. And because of all these traits that vary from individual to individual, talking about styles in terms of a no-rules street fight is almost pointless. Because styles don't do any fighting, it's the people who do. There's no single magical formula to being the best fighter.

Robert Foster Bruce Lee didn't "pave the way" for anything. His movies made people in the west take a greater interest in eastern martial arts. He was certainly a super athlete. But his martial arts philosophy wasn't actually unique. None of his moves were skills that didn't already exist in one style or another. He's lost fights before, so it's not like he's some sort of infallible, immortal warrior. Don't forget that Bruce Lee was still a failable human being like the rest of us. I don't know why people think that once someone reaches a certain level of fame in martial arts, they suddenly attain godlike status and people run around swearing they'll never be beat.

***** Several things. 1) Being big doesn't necessarily mean that a person is slow. Hand speed and reaction is based on fast-twitch muscles, which can be either big or small. Being big *does means that you'll run out of stamina quicker than a smaller person in a drawn out fight, but that's hardly an issue in any sort of bareknuckle style of fighting. Seeing as MJW was a championship kickboxer however, whereas Bruce Lee never trained to fight in round-based sport martial arts, he's more likely to lose in a battle of attrition than MJW would be. 2) Bruce Lee doesn't have power that equals or rivals MJW's. What he does have is the technique to focus all the power that he does have into one specific area for maximum effect, which isn't the same the same thing as just being a powerful striker. And if you're fighting someone whose skilled, they're not gonna give you a chance to set yourself in a firm and low stance directly in front of them to concentrate on a hard strike. A technique like that requires you to "prime" yourself before you do it. And if your opponent recognizes it, all they have to do is disrupt your stance, make you hit a different part of the body, or just get out of the way to nullify it. 3) Exactly what special effects do you think MJW was using in his movies that Bruce Lee couldn't also use, to make him look any stronger or faster than what he was? None of his action sequences were ever sped up to make him seem super fast. He never used any wire tricks or stunt doubles. So what was the point of bringing this up?

Mike Tyson beat taller guys and some who were heavier but note the difference between different sizes of Heavyweights and the difference in size between Michael Jai White and Bruce Lee which is around 100 pounds. We're talking about the MMA equivalent of a Bantamweight vs. a Heavyweight and around 100 pounds of solid muscle. White is not only taller but has a longer reach and a tremendous strength advantage. When we say size matters we're really talking about strength although weight matters too. I am sure Bruce Lee could beat up a Sumo wrestler who outweighs him by 300 pounds with most of that weight being fat. But a Martial Artist of Michael Jai White's caliber whose weight advantage translates in to a strength advantage who is fast for a Heavyweight is a very different story.

From the information that's available, Bruce Lee is the reason why so many martial artists have made it, both in the sport and in movies. He cannot really be compared to these others. He studied and mastered all sorts of fighting styles, technics, and was a freak when it came to his craft, including his workouts. He wasn't the biggest on the block, but was fast as lightning, had very powerful punches and kicks, much more powerful than guys twice his size. I think for anyone to be even close to his abilities, that person must have crazy OCD for winning, but also masters of their expertise. Most all-time greats (I.e. Tyson, Ali, Jordan, Gretzky, Pele, etc.) in any sport or other profession (I.e successful Entrepreneurs, best Doctors, best any type of Worker...) for that matter, have this characteristic that is similar to Bruce. He was also intelligent to figure out that he could make WAAY more money displaying his skills in front of a camera. Search interviews with many who learned from him, trained with him, or sparred with him, and I think most (if not all) will tell you Bruce Lee was "the real deal..." Additionally, in Bruce's day the performance enhancing products that many athletes have been using was not available. I don't think we'll ever see another Bruce Lee.

***** Bruh, NO ONE is unbeatable! That being said, I respect MMA fighters and boxers for their skills, attributes and hard work. They are a special breed. That being said they are just athletes for the most part and far from truly and deeply being complete martial artists. Boxers don't even count as martial artists of any kind. Regarding MJW, don't get me wrong, the dude is freakin' awesome, I look up to the guy and he's a true inspiration. One of the few people that have and are influencing my life as a martial artist/athlete. However Bruce was in a league of his own altogether. It is known through history that in an era there are elites, the best of the best and then there's one individual in a league of his own. Just like Senna was in his own league in an era of greats. You can analyse Bruce from any standpoint, technical, physical, philosophical etc and you would begin to understand just how good the was. BTW, one of the main characteristics that made Bruce special was that he was NOT only fast, but strong as hell as well. If you would have at least a few years of practice and study of martial arts and also study of famous martial artists and grasp an understanding of what the human body and mind are capable of, you would understand where Bruce would fit. Now that being said, if Bruce would still be alive, stand still, not block and take a hit from MJW, simply based on size, yeah MJW is right, Bruce wouldn't come out of it too well. That is part of my experience and my humble opinion. You are free to believe whatever you wish.

This guy deserves a lot of respect. He takes amazing care of himself and he certainly can walk the walk. But Bruce Lee had the power of a heavy weight and that’s documented among many fighters, heavyweights and others. I’ve seen how fast M.J. White is and I’ve seen Bruce lee’s speed, and Bruce owns speed. Bruce is lightning and could kick and retract before MJW could react. The other intangible is Bruce’s chi. He could move a man 10’ with the force of his punch from just a few inches away. 140lbs vs 225lbs. Typically you would say the 225 pound man has the distinct advantage. But Bruce Lee was not just a normal man, his mental and physical force was unparalleled regardless of what Michael Jai White says. Size only matters when you let size matters. Remember the old adage: Don’t judge the size of the dog in the fight, judge the size of the fight in the dog.

I would beg to differ with you on that. Bruce Lee, yes is very Knowledgeable about the body, and has created a stemmed system of fighting which in retrospect, is probably one of the most influental forms of martial arts. But Michael Jai, like Bruce, is a true, life-long martial artists, which more than 7 black belts, of which, all of them are in different disciplines. He is a true master, and incorporates all of those styles in his movies. He's not lackluster like Billy Blanks or Wesley Snipes, but has a wealth of knowledge in the art. Look him up!

Technique and application makes the difference, but I have seen MIchael do the same as Bruce, as he would challenge masters at their craft, and beat them.
