what i love in this vid, you see Jordan's mastery of the post. He may have not invented the fadeaway, but no one matches his vast arrays of different fades. he can fade from either block, left or right, and set people up for it like no one who has ever played. He feels the defender so well, and knows which way to take the fade.

Thanks Hoops - another rare Jordan game! I love how effortlessly MJ got up for the two hand alley oop at 1:04 at age 40! I also love the sweet behind the back pass at 2:03 and the steal at 2:46. Interesting at 4:05 Anderson is handchecking Jordan's arm. He's holding his elbow - pretty rare to see that without a foul called in the 2000s.

My favorite part is the lightning quick drive past Patterson at the 2:25-2:27 mark. This is what made Jordan the best ever: his ability to INSTANTLY read defenses and make split second decisions. No superstar player in the NBA today can make that play imo. Has nothing to do with his speed and everything to do with how quickly he reads and makes decisions as to what to do with the ball. It's instant.

Also... something as simple as stepping inside the 3pt line, like he did at the 5:04 mark is what separates him from the rest. Most players such as Bron, Kobe, Wade, Melo would've taken the 3pt shot instead of taking a higher percentage rhythm shot.

His foot work was just so automatic, coming off a screen on either side of the court, backing up off of a fake cut....it's just beautiful. Folks just look at the ball going up and in but his dance made it hard for the more athletic younger players unable to get to the shot. Dean Smith work ethic, man.

@dv122 Don't forget: MJ even had 25+ PpG at the All Star Break 2002. Phil Jackson said that MJ is the MVP right now..Then his knee spoiled the fun.All that with an off-season preparation includin a broken rib (thx to Metta ;) )

People say..."he's getting open looks" well, that's because he got himself open! I think he can come back right now and score 10 pts just by using screens and setting up the defender. And this is with the defense concentrating on him. If he played with a great big man, lets say... Gasol, he'd get an easy 14-16 pts without breaking a sweat.

lol so true. MJ is so crafty and moves without the ball so well that the double is late or doesn't have a chance to materialize. MJ's moving without the ball is so underrated. He doesn't have to run like a lunatic to get open.

haha well said. too bad it is way too late for both of them. it is so amazing to see the 40yr old mj jumping up for a two hand alleyoop. even with the injury his condition at this age is superb. notice how he used his body in those fadaways, he can still bump and fade.

@dv122 Well said. It drives me nuts listening to people saying Kobe played against superior competition. When you here people say that you want to ask if they watched the NBA in the 80's and 90's. Clyde Drexler, Mitch Richmond, Reggie Miller, Dominique Wilkins Steve Smith and so many others were just as good as a lot of these guys are today.

I really loved how the zone defense didn't let him post up, I also loved how the zone defense forced him to shoot 3s. I also loved how the uber athletic players and modern defenders stopped him time and time again. Yup... MJ could've never played against today's modern defense and super athletes.

the evolution of this man's game was beautiful. he was losing his athleticism as he was getting older, but he got smarter. you can see it in the way he attacked the defenders, the ball fakes, moving without the ball. will always the the G.O.A.T.

DO you guys see how he gets his points? Seriously LeBron really needs to study these highlights. Notice how MJ uses his screens and how he constantly moves without the basketball. Even Kobe doesn't get his points as efficiently as MJ does in these clips. Kenny Smith said it best people confuse what made MJ great with what made him fun to watch. This is what made him great, his knowledge of the game. Which is a result of 3yrs under Dean Smith. Kobe and Lebron could've used some college.

1220amusoulradio, here's just another reason to tell that guy who posted you: Did he ever witness Bird, Russel or Magic came back and play at NBA level at age 40 and STILL be able to make sensational Js dunks and lead a team to victory with that same hunger and passion as he (Jordan) did at age 40?? If he can confirm that question AND deliver PROOF, I'll grant him that there's someone grater than MJ!! If NOT, tell him to get lost, because he's obviously waisting everybody's time!!
