Laudrup was a super player. Just as technically adroit as Zidane & a faster ball dribbler than Zizou. This wasn't one of his better games though. I don't think he topped in a Denmark shirt, his incredible display against Uruguay at the 1986 world cup. One of the greatest world displays.

@@johnpacino007 2 similar collapses against an average Spain in 2 consecutive international tournaments, such a shame - they've deserved to win at least something (although for all the cursed luck of the 80's they've got the 1992 Euros trophy to show).

@@HarmsFootball Yeah & if luck would have it. Laudrup didn't play in their 1992 euro triumph. I think that's why he's underrated because, he never had the kind of national team of the calibre Zidane had with France between 1998 to 2006, to really showcase his stuff, on the grander stage of the game & win a world cup. Same thing happened with George Best ( who i consider, one of the two most skillful Europeans players of all time. The other player being Cruyff ) playing for Northern Ireland. Imagine him in a national team of world class calibre.

@in corpore I wouldn't say he was ten times better than Zidane. But i sense your frustration on how Zidane is lauded in the game, when a player of the calibre of Laudrup, is positively underrated in comparison. But what sets the players that are lauded as the greatest, compared to players around their level are: 1. Domination & big trophy win's at Champions League & world cup: Pelé won three world cups. Won the Copa Libertadores & the world club cup. Di Stéfano won five European Cup's & a Copa America. Beckenbauer won three European Cups, Euro & world cup. Cruyff won three European Cups. World Cup runner up, putting in arguably. The best set of World Cup displays from a European player at the 1974 world cup. Maradona won a world cup & put in the single greatest world cup tournament displays at the 1986 world cup. Zidane, won a Championship League, Euro's, World Cup. C. Ronaldo, as won five Champions League & a euro. Messi, as won Four Champions League. 2. Longevity at the very top tier end of the game: All those players i listed, played at a high tier level up to 30 & beyond. 3. Record breaking stats: of the kind Pelé, Ronaldo 7 , Messi, have achieved.

Michael Laudrup never won the Ballon D´or which I, and his peers at the time, find ridiculous. He was not only the best a year or two, he was consistently able to make a decisive difference for his nation and the teams he played for over a long period. He was SO skilled and outplayed his opponents while extremely seldom getting a card. I have seen so many matches with Michael Laudrup where it is clear that the opponents players try to physically hurt him early in the game to put him out. Ask the best players from that decade and mention Michael Laudrup and they all recognize his talent as unique for the periode. Incredible that Denmark, just 3 years after this game became European Champions without Michael Laudrup on the team.

Not wanting to belittle the Danish team, which was very good and had a great player like Laudrup, but seeing the Brazil lineup, bizarre names, Bernardo, Cristovão, Bismark, Valdo, Gerson...very weak and average players. The coach was the incompetent Lazaroni, who made the feat of opting for the mediocre Gerson instead of Careca. And Lazaroni is the same one who left Romário on the bench throughout the 1990 World Cup.

While it's great to re-watch these old matches, my inner "techie" have a bit of critique on the transfer itself: An analogue TV signal back in the day was broadcasted as an interlaced signal as a way to preserve bandwidth while still offering a picture of decent enough quality. However, digital video (mostly) works in the progressive domain, so to avoid the interlacing artifacts visible in this video, you should have run this video through a de-interlacing filter prior to uploading (and even editing) it. Sure, the result wouldn't be 100% perfect, but still a vast improvement over this. Also, what's up with the spots where the video goes brighter? As if you were having signal issues - like a bad cable or something 🤔 My inner OCD-ish nerd is kinda itching to take a stab at doing this transfer myself 😉 Of course, then I would need the actual tape to do so 😁

Thanks, that's very interesting, I'll look into it. I don't have the original tape though - only a DVD file (VIDEO_TS folder) of an already digitalised game, but I assume that I can still run it through a deinterlacing filter.

@@HarmsFootball The free video conversion program Handbrake has quite a few option to help you out there. Out of 4 key players that formed the spine of that 1984-86 side, from back to front (Olsen-Lerby-M. Laudrup-Elkjær), 3 have retired from international football in 1988-89. Olsen was a brilliant sweeper, playmaker and defensive organiser from the back; Lerby was one of the best box-to-box midfielders of the 80's, probably only inferior to Tigana and Breitner; Elkjær was, without the doubt, one of the most decisive strikers of the decade. Of course, there was an infusion of new talent - most notably Peter Schmeichel & Brian Laudrup, that played such a key part in the 1992 title, but the overall balance of the side was never the same. Still, they certainly underperformed - we've seen how good they could be in 1998, and, well, winning the Euros without their best player, however incredibly lucky they were at the time, is no small feat.
