For 34 years my husband has constantly tried to explain cricket to me. Despite numerous times telling him "I am not even vaguely interested" he seems to think just one more explanation will get me hooked. Not even afternoon tea will get me interested. I've come to think that my final deathbed conversation with him will be about whether or not someone in some game should have been out 🙄🤣

The English rugby thing is spot on because it was was a posh public school sport played by amateurs originally where they all all had other jobs\professions (accountants, lawyers, doctors etc.), or came from money. So they've probably come from a morning of shooting grouse then onto a game of ruggers before heading back to their manors for a hot bath and a brandy...

Michael McIntyre was interviewed by Jonathan Agnew on Test Match Special one time and talked about how every cricket fan has a signature shot that they shadow bat around the house and usually its a pull shot or a drive but his shot he shadow bats around the house is a leave. Very funny interview.

Historically football was a working class game and rugby was a middle class game..... rugby was played at the posh schools where you had to pay to send your children to and at Universities, so it was the upper classes who played rugby. Rugby has only been a professional sport since the 1990's ..... before that theplayers were all doctors, soliciotors, businessmen etc. (Some areas, like Wales and the South West of England had rugby as their main sport for everyone)

The rules of Cricket Explained to a foreinger (Funny) Cricket: As explained to a foreigner... You have two sides, one out in the field and one in. Each man that's in the side that's in goes out, and when he's out he comes in and the next man goes in until he's out. When they are all out, the side that's out comes in and the side that's been in goes out and tries to get those coming in, out. Sometimes you get men still in and not out. When a man goes out to go in, the men who are out try to get him out, and when he is out he goes in and the next man in goes out and goes in. There are two men called umpires who stay out all the time and they decide when the men who are in are out. When both sides have been in and all the men have been out, and both sides have been out twice after all the men have been in, including those who are not out, that is the end of the game Yes Its old but its a goodie!!

I sometimes see Nick wearing a Vegas Golden Knights sports jersey on your reviews. AFC Bournemouth, the English football team I've supported for many years is now owned by Bill Foley who owns the Golden Knights. It's made a few of us supporters keep an eye out for the Golden Knights as we have the mutual owner when we may have never done that before! I'm a woman who loves football, cricket and tennis and I'm impressed what you know about about cricket! My brother is hugely into American Sports, so I've watched a fair bit in my time when he's had them on the TV, but I still have a lot to learn. Not a lot of time left to put my all into it though after watching all the football and cricket that's on TV over here, but good to have a passing interest.

Cricket isn't as popular in Scotland, for example as a steward in the mid 2000s ii had to travel down to Old Trafford, about a 5 hour drive, pissing down with rain, all day no play, went for shelter in the clubhouse was chatting away with some random blokes...i was subsequently told that was the English cricket team, i still couldn't name one today.
