A short excerpt from Michael Nyman's unrecorded 'Concerto for Saxophone Quartet and Orchestra.' Commissioned by the group Saxofourte, the majority of the score is derived from 'Basic Black', a ballet written by Nyman in 1984 for the American choreographer Farrell Dyde. In constructing the concerto, Nyman added four additional lines of music for the saxophone quartet to the preexisting score, making the unusual decision to avoid the traditional 'musical dialogue' between the concertate group and the orchestra.
Realized in Sibelius with Note Performer.
