As a former college swimmer genetics play a bigger part in swimming than you think. Swimming has such a strict ceiling of improvement due to it being a very low variable sport. Other sports like soccer and hockey have so many variables involved that you can get away with less than desiarable genetics. Men will hit their ceiling by 22 and woman by 18, at that age practice preserves your skills not improve them.

Whites have longer torsos to leg ratios. This gives them an advantage in the water due to a lower center of gravity. This allows them to be more buoyant and can gain more momentum in the water. Blacks have longer leg to torso ratios. This gives them the advantage while running and jumping. Longer strides and with a higher center of gravity more downward force in their strides. It also aids in their jumping abilities. Hard work can always overcome any obstacles tho! 🏊♂️🤽♂️⛹🏾♂️🏃🏿♂️

I have to agree and disagree. It really depends on what type of swimming. Long legs is ideal for freestyle and backstroke. Also black people tend to have skinnier calves with big flat feet. Africans have a lot of aquatic traits. I think it’s culture that prevents black people from swimming. In Cameroon sand mining divers are top tier swimmers.

why is a man with so many genetic specificities aloud to compete without having to change his genetic features while a woman, such as Semenya, with her own set of genetic features, is required to change them to compete?
@Zanabery
3 жыл бұрын
Phelps has amazing bone structure- Semenya has higher testosterone than other females. It’s a matter of hormones. If Phelps had too high of testosterone he wouldn’t be able to compete either.
@interestingvideos4me
3 жыл бұрын
@@Zanabery the point is that certain inherited biological features are accepted while others are not. Why hormones are a point of contention but not his very unique bone structure? you see my point? At the end of the day, we have a reification of hormones as a problem, forgetting that Phelps' wing span, double joints, large feet - all of which gives him massive advantage - are not taken into account...seems unfair to me. What are your thoughts?
@Zanabery
3 жыл бұрын
@@interestingvideos4me I understand what you are coming from. I feel like the difference is that if women were allowed to compete with a high testosterone level it would encourage women to take small doses of testosterone to reach that level. On the other hand- Phelps is just born the way he was and people aren’t able to modify their genetics to be built like him. It sucks for her absolutely but keeps the playing field more fair in my opinion.
