This song is a beautiful variation on the question posed in Eleanor Rigby "All the lonely people where do they all come from?" When people ask me what I think I just want to play this song for them. It's amazing how many people don't know this song. There will never be another John Prine

GEM> Beautifully done. Stipes voice is full of Americna boy energy and really well placed here. His voice is so clear and high for this style and evokes corn fields and trees of the USA. Merchant sounds Celtic and emotional with her haunting head tones , swaying pitch and occasionally choked up flow. The contrast here is really special between Bragg's AMAZING composition/words and these two performers and one time lovers. Definitely a moving performance of this very important song. And the fact this rendering was given in the Czech Republic AFTER the USSR finally released it's grip is very interesting.
