One of my best memories as a kid was when our fam went to Coney Island in Brooklyn, an amusement park where there was a ride called the Himalaya. The DJ played this song.... the dj played all the hits, people didn't even get on the ride, they just danced out there in front of it. Black, white, Latinos, everybody danced, young, old.....everybody. I was a kid back then, not old enough to hit the clubs or anything but this song brings back great memories of Coney Island and the Himalaya ❤

Thank you for reminding me! That is where I first heard this!!!! Different place for rides, yet the SAME Ride and exactly the same thing would happen, usually at night. All of the lights flashing, music blasting!!!! No one cared if they didn't have any more money for tickets for the rides LOL

Inspired by the great amusement park created in Brooklyn in the first half of the 19th century, a Coney Island was inaugurated in Havana in 1918. Today Cubans know it as Cocos Island. The Coney Island and the Havana Yacht Club were, at the time, the places with the greatest splendor and fun in Havana and Cuba in general. The Havana's Coney Island came to be considered one of the most famous attractions in Latin America. Some of the park's attractions were famous, among which its great Roller Coaster, the House of Crystals and the Star stood out. It was a memorable place where loves, fantasies and even disappointments arose. Unfortunately, Castro and his Revolution in the eagerness of nationalizations submerged Coney Island in the immobile tide. In the 1980s it was modestly remodeled and Japanese equipment and board games were installed, but even then, it could not stand the test of time. The attractions ceased to be so and began to rust in the oblivion of the people. The “Parque Lenin” (I know, the infamous communist leader) began to fill the space with fun and leisure in Havana; while the Coney Island was disappearing until it was an annoying place to one side of Fifth Avenue, in the once wealthy Havana’s sector of Miramar. Every time I brought this memory to my parents, they cry like babies because, they enjoyed as little kids the Havana’s Coney Island.

You lived this story. If those of the younger generation would ask you "why disco music had such a short life?" what would you answer them? Some of us understand that there were some controversy in the late years of that extraordinary music movement :/ Please, do a long winded explanation if you like :)
@joesandoval2311
2 жыл бұрын
@@Kriegerdammerung in my opinion disco music had a relatively short life because of the difficulty of learning the proper steps in disco dancing. I specialized in the original New York Hustle style of disco dancing. It took a lot of work and it paid off handsomely. I think the younger generation would not have the patience or dedication to put in the work it takes to master that style of dance.

Funny how, during the time period (late 1970s) many people were criticizing disco as too electronic, pre programmed, shallow, artificial, lacking soul, etc 👎 (Unfair and unfounded criticism in my opinion) But in comparison to how modern day pop music is created and produced, and especially how it sounds, this track seems almost quaint and old-fashioned. They are actually playing REAL instruments on this track! (Gasp! 😮) And very skillfully too, I might add! 😍👌 Definitely no lack of soul or feeling in this song. A lot of skill from everybody who worked on mixing and producing this track too. Thankfully Autotune didn't exist back then, so it wasn't used on this song! (Yay for real voices! 👏) No digital sampling used either 🤷♂️ Oh how I long for the simple, good old days of real instruments being played by real people 🙏 Back when singers had to actually sing 😍 Back when, if they wanted a horn riff on the track, they actually had to bring in a horn section 🎺
