Atlanta-based contemporary artist Michi Meko in conversation with William Downs, discussing Meko's blockbuster exhibition Pursuit: Almost Drowned on view at Alan Avery Art Company in Atlanta, GA from July 10 - August 8, 2015.
Following in the footsteps of artists such as Mark Bradford, Thornton Dial, Rashid Johnson, Theaster Gates, and Kara Walker, Meko probes stereotypes that are assumed, all the while investigating historical reference as to why they exist. Michi most recently was purchased by the High Museum of Art.
Topics covered in the artist talk range from Afrofuturism to white privilege to understanding contemporary, urban African-American identity in America's South.
