Button BUCK DOWN! Northern Michigan is a fun place to archery bow hunt whitetail deer bucks on public land. And by fun I mean miserably difficult, nearly impossible, and by "bucks" I mean buck bucks.. not the dinks your uncle posts on facebook every year, and by hunt I mean outside the rut, thats right im talking to you guy who hunts scrapes on logging roads by clear cuts and kills a 2 yr. old 8 point on November 10th every year, patting yourself on back pretty hard weren't ya?..
After many years of trying, many experiences outside of Michigan, much gained knowledge, and data from 40+ cell cameras... I've gained a lot of perspective on what it takes to kill mature bucks in northern Michigan big woods with a bow in October, and lemme tell ya, NO ONE is 'THAT' good to consistently locate and kill mature northern MI bucks on public. There genuinely is a lot of luck involved, you aren't gonna "find that bucks bed" or "pattern" him, you're playing the odds, that's all it is. Can you find the right area with the right deer and "place your bet" from an educated guess and occasionally get results? sure, probably not, but maybe, if you invest the time. But don't kid yourself, you aren't gonna "figure him out".
Anywho, heres a video where we almost shoot one but don't then shoot a fawn instead, enjoy.
