A few thoughts: 1. Donovan Edwards production went down the moment Moore took over as coO.C./O.C. duties, my theory is that Moore doesn’t really know how to utilize him. 2. Tony Alford is not Mike Heart(duh…stay with me for a sec) hiring him was a mistake, he didn’t know how to get OSU’s run game and he can’t figure it out in Ann Arbor. 3. Offensive Line needs to be coached better. 4. Play calling was BAD!!! Needs major improvement on both fronts. 5. Just run the damn ball on 3rd and shorts when you don’t have a serviceable QB. 6. If Jadyn Davis doesn’t have what it takes to get on the field when the rest of the QB play is this bad then we need to portal one in the next cycle. 7. Everything that could go wrong went wrong. I was at the game on Saturday and it was highly annoying. Everyone was ill-prepared, in a daze and seemed to just be going through the motions. Texas was gracious enough to avoid running up the score. A classy move on Coach Sarkisian's part! There are too many distractions and the team could take a cue from the Detroit Lions. It's time to shut off the social media, interviews, emphasis on NIL, superlatives and have some tough practices on the fundamentals. We have a team with a lot of great players - the coaching staff needs to focus them on playing sound football. We can't have costly turnovers and such an imbalance on time of possession, leaving the defense on the field the bulk of the game! Kalel Mullings should start the game at tailback and leave him in there! We didn't get the running game going and thus, the whole offensive scheme was far too predictable. Mullings is a big strong running back like LeRoy Hoard - he can make yardage and run people over without perfect blocking. This will take pressure off the QB and facilitate a balanced attack.

2 games into the season, in hindsight M should have went with a specific QB coach over one other position (TE? often they are coached by both WR & OL coaches.) Everybody knew what the QB options were before the coaches were even hired, so it's not crazy to think having so many players that are raw they could use someone whose entire job is to correct footwork, throwing motions and point what they need to do on every play. Campbell can do that, but he has to also spend a bit of time coordinating the offense... which I assume takes a few minutes away from other things.
@JK-bn8ik

I think most of your analysis was good but I would add these points to it: 1. Without a passing threat on offense, against the better teams in college football, you can’t have an offensive philosophy of just mindlessly running the ball. Last year Michigan had the threat of J. J. McCarthy being able to throw the ball downfield. Michigan no longer has that threat. 2. Play calling on third and two. I don’t blame Kirk Campbell for throwing the ball in that situation after what I saw Michigan do on a third and one situation the week before against Fresno State. Michigan’s offensive line got absolutely caved in by Fresno State’s defensive front and Michigan was unable to run for one yard. Texas defensive front is better than Fresno State’s defensive front. So I understand Campbell’s call. 3. Alex Orgi cannot be an option to play at quarterback until he proves to other teams that he can consistently be accurate throwing the ball downfield. Teams defenses will simply load up the box against him if he comes in to play quarterback. 4. Michigan’s present quarterback situation is the result of the Harbaugh coaching staff not being able to recruit a quarterback the two years after J.J. McCarthy. It also speaks to Michigan’s failure in their NIL program. This failure belongs to Warde Manuel and his refusal to understand the present college football landscape. There also was a failure in not bringing in a quarterback in the transfer portal. This was caused by the Harbaugh/Manuel incompetence, arrogance or lethargic attitude toward the quarterback position. 5. If Michigan wants to continue to be included among the nation’s elite football programs they need to honestly assess where they are headed and what changes need to happen to their football program. One of the changes has to be a new emphasis on improving the passing game for the offense by bringing in better talent at quarterback and wide receiver and a greater emphasis on play calling that accentuates the downfield passing game.

@kmfiz Ok, so you DON'T understand football then lol. This is way beyond "us not competing for a title." Everyone expected this year to be a down year, but we look ABYSMAL. On the offensive side, we cannot stay on the damn field. This offense has scored ZERO rushing TDs in 2 games. Outside of garbage time, this offense has driven the ball and scored a TD ZERO times in 2 games, and has already been forced into kicking multiple 50+ yard field goals. The offensive play-calling is often bone-headed. The WR route trees are elementary af. The QB play is not good at all. The WRs are not good at all. The coaches basically lied in the off-season, making it seem like Orji was the guy, then claiming Warren barely beat him out, and now contradicting all that by not even giving Orji a single drive when Warren clearly is not doing great. On the defensive side, Martindale's d*mbass needlessly changed up the scheme enough to leave even some of our veteran players looking confused. Why he changed up a defense that has been one of the best in CF the last 3 years? Idk... probably because he's one of those stubborn, rigid, hubris filled mor*ns who is more concerned with doing it his way than succeeding. So, no, you can't just lazily say I'm catastrophizing. I'm not. This team has "bad coaching" written all over it. We just won a title, and are supposed to be an established program. A down year is fine, but we are playing like a 6-6, 7-5 team, which is unacceptable. The talent on this defense is too good for that. If you KNEW football, you would know this. A good coach would've utilized the modern tools at his disposal and gone to the portal to fill the holes we ACTUALLY had (QB, WR), hired a DC like the guy from UCLA, hired an OC that ACTUALLY had a proven record, and had himself a 9-10 win CFP team. We 100% could've done that. You are on drugs if you think this team will get into the playoffs. I think we could lose 5 games easily, especially if we start to lose morale.

@kmfiz Ok, so you clearly DON'T understand football lol. Buddy, I'm not catastrophizing. The way we are performing is beyond the scope of any established program, even on a down year. If you actually knew football, you would recognize how PUTRID this team has looked in these first 2 weeks. It's not about the fact that we started 1-1-we expected that-it's HOW we've looked going 1-1. Our offense is unbelievably bad with horrible coaching, and our defense has also taken a step back because Moore hired a DC who has more hubris then desire to put his defense and defensive players in the best position to succeed. And, all of this, to a large degree, connects back to Sherrone Moore. He made these decisions. A smarter HC would've recognized the vital personnel deficits we had and gone into the portal to fill them (QB, WR), hired an OC who was actually PROVEN, hired a DC like the guy from UCLA, and put together a solid 9-10 win CFP team. And, YES, that would've been possible because this defense has elite personnel, and we still have some weapons on offense. The issue is our QB-play, WR-play, coaching, and play-calling are all ABYSMAL.

I wanna hold Michigan accountable but it’s hard not to point out how the media, Michigan’s included, is losing their mind. You cannot dismiss how important field position is. When Texas “methodically” moves the ball down the field and Michigan forces a field goal or a missed field goal, that’s a win for the defense… but the offense can’t immediately go three and out! At one point in the third quarter the broadcast pointed out that 31 out of 38 plays had taken place on Michigans end of the field… how is any defense in the country going to look good when thats happening?! Anyways… lot to clean up but a lot of it is self inflicted and can be cleaned up. It’s a team without a lot of experience but gotta just keep working to get better. It’s not out of the picture to get into the expanded playoff or even win the big ten still but a lot has to improve…

Should have hired Clinkscale as the DC!!! Looking like the coordinator hires are the biggest mistakes so far. Also, I warned everyone that they were overlooking the fact that Sherrone is a first time head coach and we don’t know how good/bad of an in game decision-maker he was. That field goal and the poor decisions at the end of the first half were alarming. Jim was here for 9 seasons but I haven’t forgotten what bad coaching decisions look like. Those decisions felt an awful lot like the Rich Rod/Hoke era. This season will be what it is. We all see a bad team that can improve but still it looks like a bad team. Is Ward Manuel firmly on the hot seat if Dusty May underperforms too?

Hahaha. Dude, most Michigan fans and sites had this team as 9-3, possible 8-4. You're not saying anything new. Personally, this was a game I had marked as an L from the start--though, to be fair, I didn't expect them to play this poorly (even the good players were off) and thought they could win if 1. Texas didn't play well, and 2. UM played balls out. But after the Fresno game, the idea that would happen went from maybe 40% to about 10% (and that's being generous).

let's call it for what it is, this team isn't that good. Michigan is rebuilding this year. DL depth is suspect,. LB's and Secondary are probably not as good as we thought, but should still be way better than what we have seen so far. Defense should be able to keep us in games. Wink needs to put the players in better position, what a joke of game plan for Texas. O line is a fucking joke. QB's are not it. WR's ... lol. RB's can't do anything with a junk Oline. USC, OU, OSU, all L's. Minnesota possibly, IU possibly, UW possibly, lol MSU has shot. This year focus just on the O and D line coach those areas up to the fullest, like all of the coaching time is spent here lol. Next offseason, hit the portal super hard. O and D line is the priority. Go after a QB and burner WR's. UM needs to start paying for top end NIL talent if they want to be in it every year. Otherwise it's back to calling 9 win seasons a success. Sherrone might be in over his head. We'll find out in the next 2 games. I think they'll give him 2 years to figure it out.

Time to face the Maize and Blue music… the team you likely followed and loved your whole life cheated to get into relevancy and build momentum following Covid just to compete… and that cheating, competitive advantage built momentum in 2021 that helped you build the team that eventually became 2023 national champs. Without cheating, you would not have been in the title run position in the first place. If your program really was elite and cheating didn’t really give you an advantage, why aren’t you competitive every year? Instead, seeing such a drastic decline ONE GAME after becoming national champs, it only adds to the circumstantial evidence that your program just isn’t that good, and out of desperation cheated to become relevant again. Not worried yet? Consider this: Michigan will likely lose to USC, and if they do, will earn 2 losses in September… which hasn’t happened since 2014…. Which became a terrible 5-7 losing season. I’m not saying your team will be that bad, but I do know this: the truth hurts and a lot of Michigan die hard fans are in a lot of realization pain right now. Oh and don’t forget! Sanctions are right around the corner. It’s just the truth - deceivers always get found out in the end… which as Isaiah is a man of faith, I would bet (a word you guys like to use…) he would at least agree with me there.
