For the record, I was chatting with mick in the family garden and asked him about the sugar ray fight and he said & i quote as i climbed under the ropes turned Round, & in tbe opposite corner was sugar ray, and i said to myself "Cripes boy what am i doing here" He moved for a bit if a spar giggled at me we did a few moves, and he stopped and said, "I BEAT HIS SHA0DOW BOY" Mick was such a beautiful man even in success he was so humble, not a bad bone in his body..

Terry Downes got this right when he said "We all beat an old man called Ray Robinson. We did not beat Sugar Ray Robinson. We would not have lasted 5 rounds against him and it is stupid when fighters make a big thing about beating old man Ray Robinson."

One of Ray's problems as he got older was his long-time dependence on sweeping blows that he snapped at the end, mixed together with the usual jabs and combos Just didn't have the aim. But even as the power and reflexes diminished, his stamina remained pretty amazing and the sheer grace of his movements remained a pleasure to watch, even here.

That’s the amazing part about Robinson’s entire career even though he lost vast amounts of his power speed and reflexes. His style remained a mesmerizing sight to have a glimpse of.

I guarantee you 9 times outta 10 only reason people attended Robinson’s fights was because of his beautiful style.

hahaha, dude Ali admitted to Ray Robinson being better than him..He said if Sugar was a heavyweight he would be better than him..Check it out, there is a interview on youtube somewhere that has Ali saying all this..

You must be kidding. Hands down, yes, Robinson is #1. Ali took big punishment late in his career. MOST older fighters take a lot of punishment.. they simply cannot dodge punches as fast. To put Robinson at 7 or 8 shows you are way way off in your assessment of him (and boxing talent in general). Watch his fights.

It is good to see other people who have Ali as number one. In my opinion, it is the easiest choice to make of any weight division. I am a big Marciano fan. However, even if Marciano weighed more, Ali would have sliced and diced him into a TKO by the 10th round.

43 Years old and ray still moved better than most and dodged punches as well .The boxers who were exceptional in ther own right who only out pointed RayR. after he was 40 yrs. Joey Giardello, Joey Archer. Terry Downes. Mick Leahy Denny Moyer Some not worth mentioning. But in the 12 months before he was 40 pts 15rnds loss Paul P ender.. JUNE 10TH1960. DEC . 3RD 1960 DREW 15 RDS Gene Fullmer and MAR 4TH 1961 LOST 15 RDS Gene Fullmer. BORN 3RD MAY 1921. .The greatest. Gene Fullmer 13 world title fights and lost only 2. To the greatSugar Ray and the great but not quite so great Dick Tiger.,..S.R.R the only ko and we've all seen that. The normally iron chiined Fullmer did not know what had happened even when back in the changing room.Tiger won by TKO .That super punch he was aleady 36 and Fullmer is mighty underated. and Dick Tiger was only the 2nd boxer to win the undisutwed middle anlight heavy titles.I don't know abut now and the B.S. belts the likes of which we saw hanging round the neck of the fake greatest on saturday night

davbai On the footage shown here i would have said he won this fight too, but like many great boxers they became "ring whores" simply for the money, and the gut wrenching hunger which made them great had left them years ago, never the less, he is, and always will be my favorite boxer of all time. just tell me one weakness he had, just one?
