Thanks, RCDude, but I can't take credit for building this one. I'm the 2nd owner. It was built in Greece by Tasos Kazaklis, who commented below. I have built and flown several other .010 powered models, though. Some of them are featured on my channel, including the 15" span Tee Stik I completed earlier this year.

The Brazoria County Modelers Assn has a great field in Oyster Creek, TX. Yes, we are very lucky. The only real downfalls are that it is often very windy due to it’s proximity to the beach and it is surrounded by a thicket of rattlesnake infested salt grass which loves to eat models which go down outside the fenced area. I don’t have the coordinates but it can be found at 4094 FM 523 Oyster Creek, TX. A great club with friendly members.

They are pretty expensive these days. I understand. They are prized by many collectors around the world, most of whom will never run or fly them. I have acquired my .010s slowly over many years. Some were cheap. Some were expensive. A couple were actually gifted to me once ai became known as a Cox enthusiast in my local area. Good luck on your quest.

@@TeeBeeZee Treasures they are. I Have two old red tank .010's, one in a jewel case and one 1961 era in the paper sleeve and plastic inner package. I don't run those, but also have 4 of the newer black tank that I do use. The most I paid for one was $100 for the oldie in package. The jewel case one was sitting in the corner of a LHS cabinet with a $20 price tag. "sold!" But yeah they go for a king's ransom these days, not to mention the $12.95 plugs. I got lucky ye-e-e-ars ago at a swap shop, a guy had a box of about 17-18 plugs for $1 each. "sold!". So I guess I have been lucky on .010's. Also bought a handful of spare props from Cox Int'l just in case. But I suck for .020's.

By the way, I had no idea a COX 0.10 plane could go so so fast... In my senior opinion (64), I think you have the fastest airplane in the world with the smallest piston engine. You should contact the world record folks and send them a better video, and find a friend with a radar speed gun and go for it... Great plane, good luck.

Thanks for the kind words but there are other .010-powered planes running much faster. A few guys have been experimenting with custom props, glow heads, etc and getting good results. I just run my little TDs in stock form with a balanced stock OEM Cox prop on 25% nitro fuel. The plane in this video has been dialed in much better than what you see here and flies very well now.

Part of the idea that they can't move along comes from the host of antiquated designs out there for them, that originated in the '60's, '70's, and that used clunky radio gear and used all kinds of incidence/camber/wing area to keep them aloft. These days it is off the shelf stuff to put together a flight pack that weighs well under one ounce, and no problem to build a model with 50 square inches that flies well.. But one thing that holds them back is the stock prop, which is a good FF or sport RC choice but definitely on the low gear side because of the era it was developed and the work it was expected to do. Recently some small drone props have been tried, including CF 3x3 props that HK had for a while, and others. One of mine turns a 3x3 trimmed to about 2.7" at 34k and in fact the .010 needles more easily and runs smooth, cool and happy at a little more rpm..

This was a one off build. I bought it from the original builder who lives in Greece. As stated in the description, it is a CAM Racer(70s 1/2A pylon design) that was scaled down to fit the TD .010 at the firewall. It has a 17" span and uses a wing with foam core and balsa sheet. I don't have any plans for it and it is the only one of it's kind. Since this video was filmed, the airplane has been dialed in and flies very nicely!

It's a one-of-a-kind! The original CAM Racer was a 1/2A pylon racing design for .049 engines. This one was scaled down to fit the TD .010. I got it from the original builder who shipped it to me from Greece. It is built with extreme attention to detail! I try to take good care of it and it actually hangs in my bedroom between outings to the flying field. It flies much better now than it did when I made the test flights on this video. Fantastic airplane!

None for sale. Collecting, restoring, and flying these little engines has been an enjoyable hobby. The little engines like the TD .010 are some of the most special ones but they are more delicate and finicky to maintain and run. I made the mistake of selling one of my .010 planes a few years back and regretted it afterward. Lesson learned. The engines are available on the big auction site, though expensive these days. There are many plans available for planes to fly with them on Outerzone's site for free. The Cox Engine Forum is another great resource for learning about everything related to these little engines.

@@jezzeestewart3712 For glow engine flying, I honestly prefer wood construction over foam as they can be covered with fuel-proof plastic films. There are a few guys making glow powered foamy models but special requirements exist for using fuel-proof paint to keep the fuel/oil out of the foam and ruining it. It can be done but it’s not my field of expertise. All my foam planes have electric power.

Did you have the ailerons and rudder coupled correctly? Seen from above the model, the rudder should move its trailing edge towards the aileron that moves its trailing edge up. I couldn't see the arraingement clearly, as you held the model too low in the picture, but I got the impression they were opposite, and that could cause the model to pitch up in turns, because when it is banked the rudder will then act as an elevator up.
@TeeBeeZee

It was coupled in the correct direction. I have since uncoupled the rudder and fixed it in place. The airplane flies much better and dolls axially now. I haven't shot any footage of it since this video was made but it actually flies very nicely now!

I would have done the same, fix the rudder on a plane that small. I built a lot of TD .049 and .051 powered RC planes in my day and I always built them 2 channel elevator and ailerons for bank and yank flying. I have 6 or so .049 sized airplane kits of different designs and a few Cox and other manufacturers motors of the .049-.074 size and I need to find the time to build something as they are great fun.

@@fastdude2002 With all the light servos and other gear available now, there is no real need to compromise on flight pack weight/size by leaving out the rudder. But of course if you just don't choose to put one on that's cool too. I've flown a lot of A/E and fast deltas etc., and sometimes I really miss the rudder to mix it up a bit in the air.

..as an example, a short while back HK USA had the 5330s 0.17kg/cm nano servos on sale for $1.67 each. Why they were so low price I have no idea, but I bought 25. To me the weak link is the 1.25mm connectors, I tend to hard wire nano packs when it is a concern.
