Micrognathia, also known as mandibular hypoplasia, is a congenital condition that causes the lower jaw to be smaller than usual. An innovative procedure known as mandibular distraction osteogenesis can correct the harmful issues caused by micrognathia.
A cleft lip or cleft palate, as well as genetic conditions like Pierre Robin sequence and Treacher Collins syndrome, can cause micrognathia. Micrognathia is known to affect breathing, feeding and sleeping in young infants and can be dangerous if not addressed quickly.
