Microworms culture without starter? Microworms is a type of small / micro-sized Panagrellus redivivus nematode which is often used as food for ornamental fish fry, including betta fish. Its very small size with a body diameter of 50 μm and a length of about 1 mm fits perfectly into the mouth opening of the fry. The advantage of this microworm is that it is easy to culture with a relatively small container and a relatively large colony. Micoworm growth is also very fast, microworm only takes 3 days to reach adult size. With this convenience, many microworm starters are sold as a complementary feed for fry.
Then how do you make a microworm without a starter? In today's video, Cupang Metal provides easy steps to create a microworm that can be used as a starter to reproduce. The materials that need to be prepared are:
1. Potatoes
2. Pot filled with soil
3. Clear container with a lid
4. Bread or wheat flour or oatmeal
5. Water
6. Yeast bread
Steps how to make a microworm:
1. Cut the potatoes and boil them half cooked
2. Prepare the pot and fill it with yard soil in a location where the soil is always moist (for example, under a tree).
3. Plant the potato pieces in a pot filled with soil and leave for 3 days.
4. Cover the pot with plastic so that soil moisture is not lost and place it in a safe place.
5. After 3 days remove the potatoes from the pot and take the rotten potato meat into a temporary container.
6. Prepare a clear container that is equipped with a lid then fill it with moistened bread or flour dough and sprinkle a little bread yeast.
7. Put the rotten potato meat into the bread / flour dough and cover tightly then wait a few days (about 5 days).
8. Monitor the development of culture and culture is said to be successful if there are many microworms on the edges of the container.
9. Microworm can be used as a starter to reproduce as needed.
