There is no right or wrong way to do furniture. In fact, vintage furniture is incredibly hard to repair once it's damaged (i know because my house has several vintage furniture) So painting over it often saves it from being chucked out altogether.
@30piecesofsilver51

It's not really vintage, it's veneer work. The reason veneer are used is because the structural members can be cheap, and the natural wood look and color can still be achieved.

I can see why people paint furniture but I personally don't want painted furniture in my home! I'd rather pay more to have someone lovingly restire the wood!! The furniture they make nowadays doesn't come close to what was made by hand a hundred years ago ! So this piece is GORGEOUS! GREAT JOB! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DO MORE FURNITURE FLIPS SAVING PIECES ! I like when furniture is restored, and when it's painted. It depends on the condition. This was. A perfect instance to restore it. I have a piece though -a China cabinet from the 1950's- that someone had stained repeatedly over and over again. Years and years of stain build up came off with soap, water, and steel wool, but it was still patchy and uneven. I upended up painting it pink to match my stuff. I love the piece.

Beautiful result. You did an amazing job. I'm so glad you didn't end up painting it, because it's a beautiful piece. I don't know about spray painting the hardware. I’m doing this with a 1927 sewing machine cabinet as a matter of fact! It’s sustained water damage causing the vinear to gain some mold and to peel from the cabinet. (If you don’t know a sewing machine cabinet is it’s a table in a end table or desk style with a compartment that holds a sewing machine that can unfold for the sewing machine to pop out and be flush with the table top!)

That dresser is now almost identical to the one I have in my bedroom which was originally my parents (circa 1950s MidMod) same drawer design, same finish, same gold accents (my pulls are not as cool as this dresser). My dad refinished it for me when they got new in the late '80s. My Grandfather was in construction, wood working was his passion, he gave that passion to my Dad who passed it to me. I treasure it!
