I wonder if the woman in the first story was the child’s mother in spirit form? It came to mind when the kid told her she was like a mother figure to him/her. The kid said she seemed sad when they told her this. 🤔

Miss madigan I think you are right, I was thinking the same when I was translating it. I tried to keep it as vague as the original writer did. Thanks for noticing!

The woman also called out the kid's name when the narrator stated that they never even told each other their names. That bit stood out to me, unless it was an overlooked mistake on the part of the storytelling.

I was at an outdoor onsen in the mountains of southern Japan. There was a really skinny Japanese woman who stepped out of the hot water, and she passed out as soon as she stood on the deck. I was several feet away from her, and caught her head before it went under water, as she collapsed on the deck, with her body half on deck and half over the water. She came to in my arms after a heart stopping few seconds, as a tapped her cheeks, kept her head above her heart for circulation, trying to rouse her. When she did, she was super embarrassed. I had to try and explain I was worried for her safety. We ended up having a friendly, but awkward conversation. She kept apologizing. It was one of most bizarre moments from my visit. I had never seen anyone so ashamed over something so random. But, she inconvenienced me, and was really ashamed about it, no matter what I said to assure her. There is just a strange atmosphere in the mountains, especially when you get to remote areas like where we were at. Like, things are out to get you. Things you can’t see. She probably would have drowned if I wasn’t there. It felt like we were the only two women on the mountain, and men don’t enter woman’s onsen.

You should check out Daryl Hannah's story from Celebrity Ghost Stories. It's on yt with Marilyn Manson in the thumbnail, the 1st story (the 2nd one's good too). I dunno. I've never experienced anything remotely paranormal but I do think there's enough authenticated, documented evidence to not deny its existence. I 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 love The Haunting Of... I think that's what turned me into a believer. I very highly recommend it. The obvious skeptical celebrities like Tom Green, Richard Burgi, and Jay Thomas make for very interesting episodes bc they very noticably, almost uncomfortably, don't volunteer any information. A few really good ones are T-Boz, Giancarlo Esposito, Connie Stevens, Eric Roberts, Fairuza Balk, & Carnie Wilson. Really they're all worth watching tho.

I think, J, the first story is the third story you’ve narrated with a bug hunting kid having a possible ghost or Kami encounter. Is there some kind of trope in Japanese popular or folk culture? I could ask my wife, who’s from Japan, but she’d just look at me funny.
@mattstefon4878

Either she was protecting the narrator, or the narrator was stronger than they’d thought.

I wonder if the kid in the first story developed some kind of “imaginary friend” delusion because of loneliness. Either way it was a sad story.
