It's common for addicts to close their eyes and pretend probation doesn't matter. To the addict, anything that obstructs the use of their substance is not worth addressing.

Such typical addict behavior. Laughable that she was taking care of her mother--maybe using her mother for her resources to maintain her habit. In the earlier hearing, Judge said her daughter is having truancy issues--as reported by her brother--also involved with criminal justice. That poor child must be 1 step above feral. Also to my mind undercuts 'taking care of mom'. I do not see how she is going to manage her addiction on her own.

That's the problem with our justice system, and Middleton is one of the most frustratingly lenient judges I've watched. I've lost a lot of respect for him as I've watched him. He let's tenants do whatever they want and gives them way too much time. He is soft on criminals and then wonders why he sees so many repeat offenders.

I believe this judge to be a very kind individual, but he is ridiculously lenient when it comes to punishment for repeat probation violations. Probation is a privilege, not a right, and yet he rarely ever follows through with imposing any real jail time on the defendants blatantly disregarding the plea stipulations. I can understand when it relates to drug or alcohol cases, as it can take a few mess ups before an addict is able to find their footing, but not when it relates to dv, stalking, substantial theft, family violence, or neglect cases. If the defendant cannot comply with basic probationary terms, even with the threat of jail time hanging over their head, then they cannot be trusted to respect protective and no contact orders.

Because with drug addiction comes crimes against innocent people, often family members, and businesses. Not to mention the danger to the public while driving high on drugs. Ever watched a person overdose in Kensington? People take their shoes and go through their pockets and bags as they're lying there dying. Addicts steal anything not nailed down. It's really sad.

He also said that he didn't put her in jail to be mean but to get her clean time. What's the point of giving her clean time if it's not substantial? And did he forget that part of his job is to punish people? There are consequences for your actions and he doesn't seem to think that's important. I'm glad I don't live in a community where his decisions about these criminals will impact me.
