I was on a first date once, pulled a £20 note from my wallet to pay for the first round. While I was waiting I absentmindedly straightened and cleaned off a crumpled edge of the note with my fingers. The girl next to me at the bar (not my date) said "are you doing the litmus configuration?" She had pulled! Best pick up line ever. Not even sure I went back to my official date's table.

There is a similar scene in the 1972 film "The Heartbreak Kid" that starred Charles Grodin and Cybill Shepherd, though this deadpan version is much funnier. I don't know if Grodin suggested this sequence for the film or if writer George Gallo or director Martin Brest (who has a cameo as the airline ticket clerk) suggested it, as they were most likely familiar with his earlier film.

This scene was one of the best the way Charles Grodin holds himself ,the entire cast Jack, Marvin ,Eddie, Jimmy Sorrano ,Mosley ,the two wiseguys ,but the Duke stole the show, the only sad part was when the Duke convinces Jack to see his wife and Daughter when she offers him her babysitting money ,even the bit players like the guy on the train, His real name is Mosley, "I'M MOSLEY" They actually made a sequel to it called another midnight run, it was on KZitem but i stopped watching after five mins. some comedy classics like "Midnight Run" are best left at the start. The ending was sad when Jack turns around after he;s given the money and the Duke is gone.
