Likely the fine sand particles sticking to its slime coat. I have seen this issue with the puffers I have.

Puffers don't need a huge tank they generally are entertained enough looking out the tank because of there good eye seight

Awesome video. Well groomed teeth on this GSP. Thanks for sharing this~ It was great to see the white belly transition to the darker color when he hunted the hermit crab @0:17. You can really see their spikes @ 2:13(the white dots people think is ick lol).

He's hilarious! But I agree with the other comments - he really does need a larger tank. The gray belly is a sign of stress. You often see it on puffers in Wal-Mart.

I saw a tank full of them at walmart just today....and it said it ate fish flakes and freeze dried krill. smh I pulled the manager and brought to their attention that if their customers followed these directions, the puffer would starve to death.

@hotchicky8 Grey belly in this case is due to going into a dark hole - thus he changed his colors to blend, so when he came out of his "garage" he retained his darker complexion. Turn out the lights in the room and tank and the same thing will happen to any figure eight or green spotted puffer. Lack of salt will do this too and make them sick, but I argue this is not the case here.

That is rubbish my puffer have no light at night. Come morning do they have Gray belly? No. Seems like stress from a undersized tank and the slime is from rubbing the slime coat. Mine do get this problem if they are digging a lot.

Looks like the wee guy has velvet there buddy! Get some eSHa EXIT it treats all kind of white black spot velcet ect and very friendly on your fish amd puffers i have 2 puffers this one needs some Care asap tho and a bigger tank

Kyra Armas the guy in the video doesnt know what hes doing either he has that fish in way too small of a tank a green spot puffer needs around 40 gallons for one that tank looks like its less than 10, also the looks like it might have ich probably from stress from the small tank, puffers are prone to getting sick when stressed

@wildcard2323 Hi Wildcard...aquarium salt does not make water "salt water". Aquarium salt is for freshwater fish. you need to get your GSP in brackish water asap, in at minimum 1.008 specific gravity asap if you want him to live in your tank more than 6 months....
