I’ve seen midsommar at least 10 times and watched so many videos on it and I didn’t even know he released a directors cut. I’m utterly obsessed. Have to go watch that now 😂

1:02 and 1:16 I love this movie and I’ve seen every single shot multiple times. I think Aster makes it clear that Christian’s own choices led to his fate. The scene when an elder of the village tells him that he is to impregnate Maja, the most recent of the young women to be approved to bear children, he agrees and proceeds to be dressed and drugged in preparation for the “conception ritual”. It’s messed up, but there are interviews in which Ari Aster and Christian’s actor suggest that Christian ultimately chose his fate in choosing his infidelity to Dani (however unwitting it was)

He cheated while drugged and i dont think he would have if he wasnt especially given the circumstance. Dannies kinda the bad person for having to murder her bf to liberate herself while she was too weak to do it while being blatantly treated as more of a burden then a lover. She shoulda broke up w him from the get go. She shouldnt have gone with on the trip. Her emotional fragility got her in the positon that she was in and the cult manipulated that. It was almost like a way to maintain as many members they could while killing more outsiders. They made her mayqueen for the soul purpose of having her choose her bf to kill . Why make any choice she literally could have said this is craziness and as a freethinking individual w a different culture i respectfully decline choosing someone to be sacraficed. She watched people burn to death w a smile -the fact is the rest of everyone else was wailing in agony and she was smiling because she didnt belong w them or she would have wailed w them like they did with her before.

I tend to usually prefer theatrical cuts more, with one exception Avatar. Super extended of that make it alot less cliche.

I used to always prefer extended versions, but as I've grown older I've learned to appreciate the merits of a faster pace. That being said, I still do end up rating extended cuts higher than their shorter versions, but usually in spite of their pacing rather than because of it.

Which you predicate entirely on the fact you didn't care for it I presume? Aster doesn't sound like he was making a cash grab - in fact he has specified explicitly what the film was about thematically - so really you what you're saying makes precious little sense.

@SIngli6

@@pyenapple What facts make you so certain the film is a cash grab and not about anything? There are many interviews with Ari Aster where he talks about the film's themes and messages, so the second of your claims is simply incorrect, while the cash grab claim is basically an unfalsifiable.
