Thanks Derek. The proto cars are nice for sure. I agree with what guys on eBay and even fb sale groups want for these old $20 kits

Great video Deryk! I agree with DK Models, you should buy a few Auto Loaders and model a Car Facility lol. Could you possibly do a video where you show off all of your autoracks! Cheers Brian!

Agreed, people in ebay are getting ridiculous about prices. I've gotten lucky and picked up some old hopper kits at some reasonable prices. But jeebous the 33k tankers are out the roof. Wi be doing a video this weekend showing some of new fleet. I'm still waiting on my order from Midwest, Memphis has had it since the 23 of February...claiming snow ❄ storm put them behind...ughhh. Nice cars by the way, and nice price and great video as always.

Good points. eBay isn't always the rock bottom auction/purchase place many believe it is. Unless you need a very specific out-of-production item to match, or parts that only a specific version will have, prices should be competitive. A premium's only warranted if we already had 10-15 older, now rare & out-of-production versions of something, or someone's doing a 'models manufactured in' timeframe (say 1980's & 90's models & nothing made before or after). They don't want the newest, even if it's nicer and perhaps cheaper. With model railroading being so expensive, shopping around is a significant part of the hobby.

Nice review. I want to grab a couple of those Walthers GT autoracks. Those bad boys would look great "weathered & rusted" to join my other autoracks. I have plenty of those "Auto-Max" autoracks(Atlas and Scale Trains) to blend in with my Intermountain, Walthers and Atlas(articulated) autoracks to make at least two full trains. Looking forward to seeing your review on the Scale Trains Tier 3's.

Excellent comparison of the older and newer auto racks. Some of the sellers on ebay are without a doubt nuts. But there are still a great number of honest descent sellers. One really needs to be careful. I like videos but I have a decent library of train books too. My best reference material are all printed books. Great video DG !!!

@@DGModelworks so they are heavier than the Atlas which I have one of, that's good. The end doors detail is amazing and definitely looks like the real thing! I'll be purchasing at least one, and using the 5% discount code 👍

some on ebay are CRAZY and don't understand supply and demand... can't sell an old inferior item for the same price as the newer more detailed more in demand item... those two things NEVER occupy the same consumer demand space at the same time

Walthers mainline or proto when it comes to rolling stock is the best value. Rapido, Athearn, scale trains, Atlas, and Intermountain are out to lunch what they are charging for a car. Average being is 45 to 50 dollars, some approaching or surpassing 100 dollars. I understand detail, but why are we paying for underside belly detail. You never see it. Side, ends somewhat, and tops I get it. Do those as detailed. But really having hosing and piping detail like crazy underneath. Who will see it. You can make a cheap acurail kit look why better then a top end model with proper weathering. Manufacturers are out to lunch. I can get these same cars second hand or never used at trainshows for 15 to 30 bucks a piece. Can't wait till shows open up after all this bullshit is over.

everything you said is bullseye spot on... especially about the underside detail... also, atlas is really out to lunch with their new plastic pellet hoppers at 60 plus bucks/car and they have really thick side ladders and stirrups... not good, i hope they sit on the shelves till the price comes down to where it should be because 60 bucks is WAY to much given the sloppy detailing they have
