Thank you very much for printing and flying this plane. I’m 54 years old and I remember seeing the movie as a kid and it was a fantastic movie and it’s so cool in this day and age that we can now build and fly the actual plane. Excellent video. Excellent job.

Fun build great to see flying. Apparently 2 flying rc models were made for the film and were really hard to fly, no auto stability back in 82(83?) One crashed. The Canards on yours look a bit small in cord, there is an intake under the mid fuselage that would make it easier to hold. Also In the film the Mig 31 has a couple of ventral fins in the rear too, could add a bit of weight. Ty for sharing the build and maiden flight, so great to see in the air and hear how much fun you were having.

Awesome, cool nostalgia. Now I have to find that movie and watch it again. Looking forward to version 2 of this plane with some tweaks! Gotta fix the wings on the next one, they have to look right 😉 Perhaps you've done one and I just didn't find it but could you do a video (or point me to one you've already done) on how you get a print going and show the basic steps to get all these parts created, maybe show the settings you use, etc. I've had a 3D printer for about 9 months but haven't even taking it out of the box yet, just so many projects taking my time and haven't been able to decide how to get started but your videos are giving me the bug but I'd love for you to do a rough overview of your creation process.

I’m 72 yr old, I remember that movie well, still … 😂 I’ve been following your videos ever since you designed the batwing and the model before that. I have too many big projects partly or mostly built and trying to resist adding to my list. But, I’ll be checking Cults frequently, hope to get all the little things sorted out and post the files for sale. And yes, move the battery hatch rearwards to make battery placement more convenient. Congratulations on a successful maiden 😋👍👍👍

That thing screams so loud it had all the neighborhood dogs barking. Now stick the twin 50's and a 4-5S lipo in it and see if it's Mach 5 capable. I'm impressed that the design was actually feasible even if mounting a movie accurate rearward firing missile is not.🤣 On a more serious note... have you considered making some faux ventral fins on the lower intakes? You could make them really short, really thick, with very rounded edges to prevent digging in and they might act as landing skid's to help protect the belly. Just a thought I had, I would like to hear what you think about it. Also, getting the canards working once you have more power to overcome extra weight means you might be able use them for control and while letting the elevon's on the back be dual use as flaps which might let you do a steeper AoA for flare before touch down so you don't have to belly flop it.
@patprop74

I bet the canards barely do anything until a specific speed. In real life they are basically just used in the case of the need of a cobra maneuver. You should have the canards be neutral in lift in line with the flight pitch and if possible have a micro control surface to put them to use as intended
@christophemicoud1508
Күн бұрын

So one suggestion to help with the CG issue is to make sure the canards have 2° positive incident meaning the leading edge is higher than the trailing edge. Any aircraft that has a canard is going to have positive incidents in the canard in relation to the wing. This helps to ensure that the canard stalls before the wing.
