Honestly as a user of the Steam deck to play his switch games, I'd rather have the dumper, but what would make this a killer deal is an accessory as it's unlikely we'll get unsigned code running on a unmodified Switch to allow for menu functionality anytime soon, but rather something the size of a PS2 memory card with a small LCD display, a couple buttons, and a slot that fits the MIG Switch. Use a cheap micro controller to power on the MIG communicate with it, and allow you to pick the ROM. Depending on how they've implemented this, we're talking a few dollars with of materials to build and maybe 20-25 dollar retail price.

Bunch of physical games, the carts are taken out and put into a mass storage (i have the same case even but it also houses my vita games). That said, I feel like its a little too soon to get something like this since the switch is still Nintendo's main focus so they have more eyes on this right now. It only takes one software update to render it useless unless the Mig company accounted for that and this bypasses any and all updates they do going forward. I will likely pick up the dumper though since i do want a back up of my things. [edit] watching a bit further, yeah... having to re-insert the flash cart a bunch of times is really not good for the hardware so ill pass on this iteration, if they ever add a selector on the cart itself then I might consider it later if i can get my hands on the dumper before that.

Trying to sue millions of people at the cost of thousands each will lose more money than it recovers. Now that rumors suggest we’ll be getting a Switch 2 within a few years, one can’t help but wonder, ‘What will become of the old Switch?’ Does it have a future? Is it worth modding? Can you install Android? Is it valuable for emulating other classic games? I hope this is something you might address in the future.

We also don't know for sure if you'll be banned running a cloned cart on the MigSwitch and the genuine cart at the same time. Still waiting to see anyone post about it.

So no homebrew, then. That would be a big draw for me... why bother buying one of those Anbernics when you can make the Switch emulate games up to the Dreamcast?

You can share it only thing is yall both would have to play offline cause they cant ban you or track you if your offline on the switch🤷🏽♂️

I think when this was announced everybody expected a pirating device, but instead they got a convenience device. Nintendo will hate it either way, but there's a big difference IMO, and I don't even know if Nintendo can sue them for this since it doesn't circumvent the need for decryption keys at all.

You can easily pirate with this lmfao
@MrSlowestD16

@@thetubbs99 You can, but can you go online with it as well? If Nintendo detects 2 systems online using the same set of keys it can ban them - IDK if they do that or not at the moment, though.

What could make the experience better is if the provided a software to select which game is currently mounted from within the Switch.

I think the real use case is with the dumper. That way a bunch of friends will dump those great 1 player games to PC then you can just load 1 or 2 to the mig card and just play them that way. I mean personally I would only play 1 or 2 games at a time on the switch. I think things like this are a bit of a "sales killer" for the likes of the Zelda games that really have no online experience and could just be shared around with friends offline. Would be interesting to see if you could dump indie games that don't have a cart release? Games like Sea of Stars (still no physical release in my country but coming soon) would also take a sales hit if that is the case, which is a shame because they deserve the money for developing that game.

Tbh, just get like 10 16 gig sd cards and label them - same as catridges except way less space

Placed my order as soon as I heard about it in January. Still waiting. A great device to dump a few rare cartridges onto and take on your travels. With the originals stored safely.

I was excited for this back when I first heard of it because I switch between all my pokemon games often, (I'm a crazy lad working on a shiny living dex for home) so I was hoping to use the MIGSwitch to lessen the wear and tear of my carts and the cart slot. when I found out you have to pop it in and out to switch games all my care for the product was thrown out the window. I did however find a differnt product, there are 3rd part dock extrenions that plug into your switch's cart slot and let you have 4 games "plugged into" your switch at once and switch between them with the press of a buttion either on a remote, or on the dock extention. so I will probably end up getting on of those.

The hope of a lot of people to get an OSD for changing the games will not happen until the whole DRM is cracked. Nobody is able to run unsigned code on an unhacked switch, and an OSD is unsigned code. If you get unsigned code running from the module, the whole module would be obsolete.

I would imagine if only a couple of the same cartridge appeared at the same time it wouldnt lead to bans, simply due to the pre-owned possibility. It's probably more likely that certain cartridge identifiers will become blacklisted over time if the dumps are mass distributed online

Two 1TB microSD cards. That's my cartridge. I stopped collecting physical during the Xbox 360 era. I cannot stand to have all the discs that I have. The only reason I have them is because the Xbox 360 games I have on disc were delisted and the rest are OG Xbox and Dreamcast games. Vintage. The amount of carts you have, Russ is ridiculous. There's no way in hell I'd swap out that many.

So what happens if you legally buy a used cart that had been dumped and shared online, and your console gets banned?

Russ is out here doing the most to act like he's not getting ROMs online: -3-D printing switch cartridges. -Printing labels on sticker paper. -Buying bulk switch cases from AE/OR just asking GameStop. -printing cover art. It's okay man, the Ninjas won't get you! 😂

Im excited to see this sort of thing get better over time, especially as we see the end of the Switch's time as the current Nintendo console. just like with the 3DS, soo many games became unobtainable without yar har fiddle dee dee, so while im glad that right now this thing doesnt seem to be viable for such, its nice to see that the ball is rolling to enable it by the time it is necessary for games preservation

One thing we could do is buy multiple sd cards and make game compilation of 3-5 games in terms of genre or etc. It is more expensive not an all in one solution but i believe it is worth it if we do it like this.

If you could choose the game you want to play on the screen, it would make for a great alternative to bringing carts with. I've thought about how much money I'm actually risking when I bring my portable game holder case filled with switch games and the MIG would be great for not risking that, but it would be easier to just use a hacked switch and thus a loaded micro SD card.Maybe the dumper will be more worth while though

I would like a MIG Switch because whenever I take my switch out I have my entire game library with me. If my switch case was to ever get stolen I would not only lose the $300 console but also probably thousands of dollars and years worth of switch games

Back when I had the Sky3DS, I would put like 4-5 games on a smaller capacity sized mSD card. I would have like 10 of these mSD cards for all the games I wanted and just swap out the mSD and cycle through the games on that specific mSD. Sure you would still need to carry around extra cards with you, but you didn't have to worry about your physical games getting stolen or lost. Also, so you know what's on each card, I would buy 1 mSD from a different company, or a different version, this is so the card would look different and would write down what was on that card.

Mig Switch needs to preload a menu with the list of all the games on the SD before loading it, so it would be easier to switch between games, similar to the R4.

Currently since you need a modded switch there are better ways to play "backups". With the dumper however this opens up backups and piracy to so many more people!
@Zetheek
6 ай бұрын
It's exactly the same as any other type of pirating on Switch, people will dump the files onto sites for people to download. People aren't playing XCI's online either because they don't want a ban. This just opens it up to every switch and possibly the Switch 2 if they are backwards compatible with the cart.

Do you think they'd be able to update it to do what the Five Nights At Freddy's collection does? (Pulls up all 5 games in the home screen at once)
