Buongiorno Jo.

English is a long-learning process. I had been living in the UK for about 15 months and I just became fluent and spontaneous, but there were a lot of vocabs that I was not aware of at all. Now I had been losing the touch at English, even though I can still take part into an ordinary conversation, unfortunately concerning British local slangs I’m totally off with. Over time as long as you’ll live there, you can rock it and eat everything for breakfast, it gonna be a piece of cake.

Prima dello IELTS, inizia a studiare meglio l'uso dei tempi verbali ;) "I'm still learning" è meglio del Simple Present e in "This year I wanted" , siccome l'anno non è finito e desideri ancora fare il test, dovresti usare il Present Perfect "This year I've wanted".

I got efface wrong (I chose Nr. 1) and I guessed the right italian translation for hindered, "ostacolato", but chose Nr.3, "to stop" instead of Nr.2 "to not help". I still think that "to stop" could be implicitly, possibly right, at least in some cases, while "to not help" seems a little too weak for my taste, because it does not imply that I have been actively working against the desired outcome, which is the peculiarity of hindering something or someone. So I got 8 and a half or possibly 9 out of 10.
@noname-zv5gb
@reddinareddika3624
To hinder something doesn't mean "to put an obstacle in front of something" but rather to chip away its progress or to put it at risk entirely. In this sense, it is more similar to the word "intaccare" rather than "ostacolare". It is significant that the most used way of saying with hinder is "to hinder someone's progress": "intaccare la progressione di qualcosa". It doesn't stop the action entirely, it rather makes it more difficult to finish. "Lui mi ha impedito di andare a scuola" would translate to something along the line of "He prevented me from going to school", a more fitting example for to hinder would be "le proteste hanno messo a rischio la consegna del progetto": "The protests have hindered/slowed down/put at risk/rendered difficult the delivery of the project.". I gave some synonyms so that the nuance was more clear, provided that I mainly train on US English, so some meanings may be a bit off.
